February 11, 201412 yr Hi Guys Looking for a bit of advice on finishing this repaint as this is my first repaint I've created a fictional repaint with the a2a paint kit,and I'm reasonably happy with it so far. my paint contains several layers firstly tried flattening all layers then saving as a dds (I'm using photoshop) and then created the necessary files and put it into fsx. The result was terrible in that I basically had the entire paintkit on the paint scheme. I figure looking at the paintkit with the schemes that it comes with that these are merged and have everything else turned off eg background, alpha channels etc so I'm not sure now what to flatten what to merge and then how much needs to be saved as the dds file thanks for any advice rgds Pete Little
February 11, 201412 yr Hi Posting a pic may help to understand your woes. Have you flipped/rotated your work (merged layers and alpha) in DTXBMP before saving the .dds ? This a SOP, I don't have the A2A 172 Dominique Simming since 1981 - [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam
February 11, 201412 yr Author Hi Was just about to post an edit ,but no I had not flipped the image Since then I have done that and reinstalled it into fsx ,however I now have no colour on my repaint the shapes and text associated with the repaint are all there but the colours are various shades of grey I have an idea its to do with the way I have saved the dds file and the associated alpha channels rgds Edit Ok I have my colour back ,as I suspected it was the way I had saved the dds ,I originally set it as dxt5 tried it with dxt1 and alpha, and it seems to have worked just a bit tweaking of the paint and should be how I want it Pete Little
February 11, 201412 yr Not forgot to check your repaint layers before merging and saving them in Photoshop ? Do you see the expected repaint with colors in DTXBMP before saving the .dds ? EDIT you save in DTX5 ? February 11, 201412 yr You don't have to merge your layers before saving. And always save the textures that have alpha as DXT5. DXT1 ARGB allows only for 1bit alpha (so only two colors, black and white). Textures without alpha can be DXT1 RGB. Cheers, George.
February 12, 201412 yr Author Hi George thanks for the info, will experiment a bit more. I got it to work saving as DXT1 with alpha and all my colours show up fine in fsx ,when I tried it using dxt5 was when I had the black and white problem ,but I think I had problems with the alpha's at that point, will try it again and see what happens Thanks rgds Pete Little
February 12, 201412 yr The problem must be somewhere else. Make sure to save as DXT5 ARGB not XY. Cheers, George.
