February 13, 201412 yr Today when I started FSX I noticed it took a long time to load up, much longer than normal. Then once it finally loaded I noticed the frame rate was terrible. I have been using FSX everyday for the past several months with absolutely no issues and great frames, so this surprised me. Of course I started checking things out and when I opened up Nvidia Inspector to verify my settings I noticed that Microsoft Flight Simulator X is no longer in the drop down menu! The only thing close is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002. So I opened up Nvidia Control Panel and under Manage 3D settings, fsx.exe is listed. I am puzzled why FSX is no longer listed in Nvidia Inspector though. I recently updated my graphics drivers to 332.21 and then to beta driver 334.67. Perhaps this is causing an issue? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Ben Weaver SWA8485

Go back to 332.21 and see what happens. gb. YSSY. February 13, 201412 yr As you have installed an updated driver, you will have restored all the profile settings to default, that would explain why FSX suddenly doesn't look so good. Highlight the text and then type in MS rather than Microsoft in the Profiles box, top left and you should see listed MS Flight, MS Flight Simulator 2004 and MS Flight Simulator X. Only Fs2002 is named Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002.
February 13, 201412 yr Author As you have installed an updated driver, you will have restored all the profile settings to default, that would explain why FSX suddenly doesn't look so good. Only Fs2002 is named Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002. This is indeed what I was doing - searching for Microsoft rather than just typing in MS Flight Simulator X. It was in there It had been a while since I had been in Inspector so I forgot about that. Installing the new driver did reset some of my settings so I changed them back but FSX was still taking forever to start up. After starting FSX the splash screen would come up and take about 5 minutes before the main screen finally came up and when it did the performance was terrible. The FPS in the screen that displays the selected aircraft was just about zero and every time I tried to open a window to change location or aircraft FSX would freeze and crash. After doing lots and lots of forum searching and reading I found several examples of Windows updates causing problems. I remembered Windows did several automatic updates the night before I started having the problem so I ran the tool "Check for Windows Update Errors and Problems" and I also checked to see if there were any additional updates available and there was. Yesterday Microsoft released an "optional" Windows update for W7 64 bit that fixes errors from previous updates. I downloaded and installed the update and what do you know.... Everything is back to normal and FSX is working just as it should again. I never thought a Windows update could mess with FSX so badly but it did. Ben Weaver SWA8485
