February 14, 201412 yr Hi, For the most part, my FSX performance is OK. My main problem is that when looking out the windows with a side view, I get a very rapid steady stutter of buildings and scenery. Once I go back to front view the view is pretty smooth. I have the FPS set at 17 but it occasionally drops to no less than 10 or 12 in complex areas. Also weather doesn't affect the problem since it happens with blue sky and with clouds. I have Bojote's tweaked FS Config and the FSX profile in NVIDIA Inspector selected. Any ideas? My System Specs are listed under "my PC". Thanks. Tom
February 14, 201412 yr There is much more movement when looking perpendicular to your path of travel than when looking forward. This means more movement per frame which is probably the rapid steady stutter you are seeing, especially with the low framerates you are running with. You will likely notice this more at lower altitudes where the scenery and buildings move across your screen much more rapidly than at higher altitudes. If you can turn down some settings to increase your fps up to the 24 - 30 range, you will probably see a significant improvement. Even on my system where I keep frames locked at 30, if I go low and very fast the rapid stutter becomes apparent when looking to the side because there is some perceptible movement to the scene even in 1/30 of a second. The higher your framerate the less of an issue this will become, but 30 fps looks very smooth under most conditions. One of the biggest things to hold back your framerate is vehicle traffic on the roads. Try turning it off and keeping your water at a max of 2X Low and locking your frames to 30. Also if you have vsync on in Nvidia Inspector set it to 1/2 the refresh rate of your monitor which works well combined with locking your framerate to 30 on a 60hz monitor. I save different settings for different scenarios so that I can maintain a solid 30 fps in all situations. This means reducing settings when flying in major centres or with more complex aircraft or both. I love having the traffic on the roads, but that is one of the first things I get rid of in heavy areas in order to maintain a smooth simulation. February 15, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the help and suggestions, Turnandbank. I will try them out and hopefully get that framerate up. I built this system a few years ago with the guidance of some online posts and the hopes that it would run FSX really well and although it was better than my previous system, it obviously is still not the best. Regards, Tom
February 15, 201412 yr Author Hi Turnandbank, I just checked my Inspector setting for Vertical Sinc and it says "Force On". It doesn't show an option for half my refresh rate which I think would be 30 or half my refresh rate of 60. The other choices in the drop-down are "Force Off", "ox 47814940 (BAE Systems SOCET SET SOCOET GXP ESRI Arc GIS/Arc View)", "Use 3D App Setting", "ox 084167476 (ISD HICAD,SIDE EFFECTS HOUDINI NEMETSCHEK Allplan". Is "Force On" correct or should I try something else? Thanks.

Try downloading the latest version and see if it has the 1/2 vsync option for you. Otherwise I would just use force off if you can live with the tearing when panning as it may look slightly smoother on your system. February 17, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the reply. It says I have version 1.9.5.5. I will check it out. Regards, Tom
