February 18, 201412 yr FG's rotary FDMs, Yasim or JSBsim are way ahead of anything for MSFS, and IMO even better than what X-plane users can get. Here's a nice vid with an EC-135: Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 18, 201412 yr Can you compare it with DCS? Lj. Prodanovic
February 18, 201412 yr Author Hmmm, I believe it all depends on the data used to design the model, but with the new JSBSim-based rotary wing FDM I believe the same level can perfectly be achieved, yes :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Here's a nice vid with an EC-135: I tried it, seems a very very good model but I don't see any particular advantage in FM compared to X-Plane. I'd rather say its handling is very very similar to X-Plane. I think it lacks the modeling of Vortex Ring State though. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

I think it lacks the modeling of Vortex Ring State though. Can be modelled, when JSBSim is used for rotary wing now. VRS is also very poorly modelled, if modelled at all, in X-Plane 10. DCS has it, and it feels just about right, probably overdone in the Mi-8 though... The biggest advantage of Flight Gear over X-Plane, MSFS, etc... is that it's an open source, freeware, project! Until recently I confess that I was always being prevented from using it due to some limitations of the interface. Joystick and controllers configuration is now piece of cake, up to the level of most comercial offers. Weather modelling and future possibilities being explored in this area is another aspect that really attracts me in FG. Visually it can't rival with the best we have for MSFS or X-plane 10, but that is changing, and it isn't actually what I look for in a sim...
