Looking for a Fun Classic Airliner

Featured Replies

I am looking to purchase another high quality add-on for FSX, and I have narrowed it down to Coolsky's DC-9 Classic and Flight Sim Labs' Concorde X. I am aware the the two aircraft are quite different, but between them, which do you believe provides the most immersion and the most "fun" experience to fly? I am open to any other suggestions for "fun" classic airliners.

Thanks in advance!

I'm a big fan of the Coolsky DC-9.   Good systems fidelity, a great handflyer, the flight dispatch utility is great esp. if you don't have a lot of time (you can start with the plane configured ready for take off  at the end of the runway, plug in your initial vor frequencies and courses and off you go...

Beautiful VC.

Useful because it is quite appropriate for short flights between interesting airports, or to get you into smaller regional airports like the jet was used for in the 60s and 70s.

Fun.

I can absolutly vouch for the Simcheck Airbus A300.

I also have the DC-9, and love it. I did return it at one point, because performance was rather bad. With all the latest patches, it seems better, thought it is still a bit of an FPS hog even for a complex airliner.

From what I've heard, the Concorde would require a lot of learning and practice to get down pat. Personally, I'm not that interested in managing such a complex aircraft for the relatively limited pool of flights that it was designed for, but you may find this to be fun if you want a challenge.

With that said, the DC-9 is an incredibly complex package on study-sim level complete with failures, system diagrams, etc. It may not be as difficult to get up in the air, but you can still turn it into a challenging sim. And it is certainly fun flying without the glass.

Captain Sim L1011 would be an excellent choice.

The Coolsky DC-9 is a high end rendition of a classic jet. It is really deep in terms of system simulation and a complete package with in game fuel/load manager, training system and so much more. It may be the best classic jetliner since the release of the DF 727 or RFP 742 for FS9.
