March 5, 201412 yr I'm flying Heathrow to Jomo Kenyatta in July for a holiday of a lifetime safari, I don't get to fly long haul very often so I've been preparing to do the flight on FSX before the real thing. I can at last compare the RW experience with FSX (and add ons!). Of course I have egll Xtreme from UK2000 as well as Oriental sims nice Jomo Kenyatta airport. Picked up the Posky 777 and a set of Kenya Airways colours, too. I'm more of a GA pilot so haven't any payware airliners. In my first couple of test flights from EGLL, I received OOMs (!), so something had to change before I could fly this 8 hour flight. First thing was to pick up the brilliant FSXStarter, which lets you compartmentalize different set-ups and open FSX using one of up to six different configurations. For my 'Long haul' set up I have disabled all scenery except UTX and FTX Global. That means all my mega airports, all my autogen add ons for the UK, all my UK VFR photoscenery, African Adventures, add on sceneries for the Caribbean and elsewhere. Instead I will activate the departure and destination airports only, FTX Global looks great at any altitude. My airliner traffic is 100%, all other traffic at 0%. Just departed EGLL for the French coast and everything is fine this time. I know it works, no OOMs, no real stuttering ... I've practised ILS landings at Jomo Kenyatta in the 777 ...., I'm ready for the flight this weekend, flying at the exact time and date of my holiday flight to try and catch the right sunset times. I'm flying throughout the night, across the Med and down across Egypt. Really looking forward to this! I do have one question, how do you know which Gate to start from? Is there a website out there which gives gate assignments for different airlines??? Cheers! - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
March 13, 201412 yr Hello, I use FlightStats. Doesn't always give a gate departure or arrival though. Use the Flight Status window on the right hand side and then use one of three tabs to define your search by flight number, Airport or route. In your case KQ101. http://www.flightstats.co.uk/home.do Alan Finch Windows 11, Intel Core i9-9900K @3.60GHz, RAM 32GB
March 14, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the FlightStats link Airbus Driver. Portia, I am very new to FSX (Nov 2013) and find the possibilities and realism absolutely mind-blowing, I am totally thrilled to be able to recreate actual flights .. can't imagine life without FSX now ... - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
March 14, 201412 yr You can also try flight aware. For North American routes it even gives you the flight plan.... http://flightaware.com/ Al Stiff
