every time i switch off task for example check my flight analysis and then i try to return to my flight the screen goes black but i can still here noise or the graphics get all messed up. anyone got ideas how to fix this?

Avoid switching tasks while using FSX. And if it's absolutely necessary, switch to WINDOWED mode BEFORE attempting to switch tasks.

 

Really the best thing is to buy a cheap laptop to use as a side-PC while simming to not over-stress our FSX (which is extremely sensitive)

You probably have not added any of the required FSX.CFG edits.  Have a look at the FSX Configuration Guide:

You should post your PC specs in your profile.  Click on your name, go to "My Profile" then "Edit Profile", scroll down and add your info.

This is a suggestion, not a total fix.  If you are in full-screen mode, go to windowed mode (ALT + Enter).  Press P key to pause the sim.....count to 20 slowly...Press P to resume the sim and press ALT + Enter to go back to full-sceen mode.  See if that helps!
