Lord of the Landing and PMDG aircraft....

Featured Replies

.....work really well together!     If you've never tried the freeware utility, 'Lord of the Landing', you're seriously missing out.     LOTL lets you keep your FSX aircraft in a landing configuration and allows the user to hyper-slew their plane back out onto final approach with the simple click of a button or keypress.       One can easily log about 100 or so landings per hour this way without any effort at all and without having to reconfigure the aircraft or load panel states, etc.

Essentially, LOTL will place your aircraft on final at any airport or runway you specify in the FSX scenery database, and you will automatically have an initial speed commensurate with your aircraft category and weight class.      So, you complete one landing, leave the aircraft configured, and hit the assigned key or button macro to quickly warp yourself back onto final approach in a matter of seconds.     The really cool thing is that LOTL does NOT reset your flight each time (something that can funk with PMDG sims); rather, LOTL simply moves your aircraft into position on final approach according to your specifications in the setup menu.     Again, you will automatically be set up with an airspeed close to Vref, depending on aircraft type.

Finally, LOTL will  scroll your touchdown vertical speed, flare distance, etc., in a moving text bar at the top of the screen during landing rollout when slowing through about 60kts IAS.      One click and you can do it all over again in a matter of seconds.      Also, LOTL will let you specify different distances to be placed out on final, as well as even set you up for curved approaches.

LOTL uses Simconnect to interface with FSX and works just dandy in either windowed or full-screen mode.      LOTL works great with both the PMDG 737NGX and 777.        Did I mention this is freeware?     :O

Y'know I never use freeware, ever. But this is something that looks very helpful for practicing! Especially after sp1's FBW changes! Thanks Aaron, and a wonderful find indeed.

Taxiing back to the runway when practicing landings can be ultra annoying.

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

Wouldn't a "go around" or touch and go work as well, along with giving you an opportunity to fly the pattern properly? Don't get me wrong, LOTL sounds like a great tool, no question, but for those seeking "realism", the T&G seems to me to be a better option...?

Or am I being an idjit again?

It´s a great tool, been using it for a while now, i still prefer touch and goes for practicing purposes though. One thing about LOTL is always bugging me: My flare distance rarely is less than about 1600 feet although I´m clearly in the first third of the touch down zone. Boeing clearly recommends 1000 ft for the 737, 757 and 777. Do I mix something up here? As far as I know, the flare distance is measured between 50ft RA and the touch down point. Maybe someone can enlighten me...

Best,
