April 30, 201412 yr Amazing shots- Its a shame the sim savvy photo scenery isn't available any more. It's really incredible. Will Torrens
April 30, 201412 yr Lived in Aden for a while in '57 (aged 15) and '63 (aged 21) and would love this scenery! Flew a Beverley some of the way from Khormaksar to Mukeiras RAF supernumary crew, in '63. Unforgettable, and this photo-scenery brought it all back. Could you possibly post a pick of the Mukeiras strip (photo-scenery)? (About 20 mins flying N-E of Aden Airport on a 6000' plateau.) Nothing much there in 1963 but we delivered a jeep, crates of coke and sacks of onions among other things. You're into density altitude flying up to the plateau with a big load. The captain was very proud of his skill flying the Bev. n the desert. Cheers, and thanks for the pics. Gareth Wilkinson LEAL Costa Blanca, SPAIN

May 1, 201412 yr HLJ, thanks for posting, kind of you given there's nothing much to show after all. What buildings there were at the strip, associated with the British garrison, have long since been removed I expect. Or gone back to the sand. When Aden went to the Yemenis in the early '60's (we all had to leave; my father missed a bomb in a cafe by 10 minutes) they stripped much of what the Brits had built. Google sat. reveals that my family's quarters (a large white 2-storey detached villa) is well and truly gone and others like it (4, The Maidan, close to the Officers' club at Tarshyne.) It was all a great experience at the time for a young fellow stuck in England for School/Uni. while my family cooked in 45C for half the year round. All the best, Gareth Wilkinson LEAL Costa Blanca, SPAIN
