Another World Flight

Just to wish you luck. Good to see someone doing this in something that needs more than two stops to get RTW. :D I get so tired of seeing the kids posting a RTW trip in a B747.

Sounds similar to the solo world capital tour I did 1st half of 2004, followed by another completed just recently with my VA. In fact, I'm such a RTW junkie that I've started on another lap of the earth, again with my VA in multiplayer formation. We are taking our retro Convair 580s (everyone has a different paint) on a 71 leg chug around the planet at a rate of one leg a week. In between these flights, I take a flying tour around countries or attractions neighboring the last place that I landed.BTW, just got FS Global 2005 and am AMAZED at the quality improvement of over the default mesh. The Alps that I just visited were an absolute treat with this add-on. :-hah I see that you have landclass data enhancements through MyWorld 2004. In your opinion, is this as much of a - pardon the pun - ground-breaking improvement for landclass as FS Global 2005 is for mesh?GaryOh, and here is a screenie of my latest RTW steed - the Convair 580 - over the Alps and FS Global 2005 showing its ground-detailing glory.

Hi Matt and Greg,First of all, the site has been pretty popular so I upgraded!! Here is the new address:http://fsglobaltour.pollocksplace.com/Glad you liked my first attempt at creating a web page!! I tell you, I'm as green as green can be!!I agree with Matt that the "whirlwind" RTW flights are not as interesting as hopping around and exploring. I like low and somewhat slow...I can't bring myself around to using a single prop at 120 Knots!!! I have to admit that the Hopping Around the World Adventures kinda inspired me to do my own with destinations of my choosing.Greg, I'm glad to see that you have enjoyed several flights RTW!! I plan on trying to get this done in a year or so...I hope. FS Global 2005 is truly a great improvement in mesh!! Even Ayers Rock is somewhat decent!!MyWorld 2004 is not a bad product. It gets rid of that checkerboard effect from the default landclass I find, and places the proper landclass for smaller villages and towns. As far as I know, the developper is redesigning and updating the world landclass for a newer version. I belive it is in beta now.I'm anxious to get over some bigger mountains, like the Alps, but I thing I'll be heading to South America first on a zigzag course. :)Here's to more adventures!!!(I've go 5 legs done...soon to be uploaded on the site)Happy aviating,Devinhttp://fsglobaltour.pollocksplace.com/CYOW

Kevin,Actually, the name is Gary. And I tease, I know your name is Devin ;-) South America is quite mountainous itself around the Andes, often getting up to 18000ft in places, so it should give you a good taste tester for the Alps when you eventually get there. One of the interesting asides when visiting every "country" is to determine which lumps of dirt are actually recognised countries and the bona fide of who is actually doing the recognising. FWIW, I used http://www.worldatlas.com/cntycont.htm on my solo journey.Gary

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I checked it out but was INUNDATED with popups.:-wave

This sounds like alot of fun, and I always wanted to do this.I have some questions when preparing for a RTW trip, not being a real pilot.I hope these don't sound too stupid:Do you plan every leg of the entire trip before you fly or do you fly to a destination, then see where you can go next?Is it possible to fly the entire trip with props or are there portions where you need a jet to go over ocean?I have both xplane and FS9, and I'm thinking of doing this in xplane, only because it's new for me and I recently purchased a set of nice Piper planes. I would like to use all of these.Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but after reading it, I became interested and I'm curious as to the "mechanics" of the entire trip. I like the fact that you will be checking fuel prices, etc. That's pretty cool.Jeff

Hi,Yeah, I noticed that too!I think I'll get rid of the guest map and forum. They are the culprits, I think. The new URL should not have any ads on it though. Thanks for lookingDevinCYOW

Another reason I went with a twin turboprop that can get to FL350 when I need to! The Hymalayas should be fun too...>One of the interesting asides when visiting every "country" is>to determine which lumps of dirt are actually recognised>countries and the bona fide of who is actually doing the>recognising. Should be an interesting challenge to find them all.DevinCYOWwww.fsglobaltour.pollocksplace.com

Hi Jeff,>This sounds like alot of fun, and I always wanted to do>this.Me too!! :-)>I have some questions when preparing for a RTW trip, not being>a real pilot.>>I hope these don't sound too stupid:My philosophy is there are no stupid questions because I use them all up!!>Do you plan every leg of the entire trip before you fly or do>you fly to a destination, then see where you can go next?It depends. I have an idea of where abouts I want to go, but I have no firm destinations. I do have some ideas of places I want to go, but instead of going straight there, I'll zig zig toward that place.>Is it possible to fly the entire trip with props or are there>portions where you need a jet to go over ocean?I think so with the range the King Air 200 has. The only leg I probably can't fly is the Hawaii to US mainland leg. I'll figure out what to do there when I get there. I think I'll be going over Alaska to Russia and then on to Hawaii via Wake Island or something like that...we'll see!! :-)>I have both xplane and FS9, and I'm thinking of doing this in>xplane, only because it's new for me and I recently purchased>a set of nice Piper planes.
