Fantastic sound. Modern jet engines, no matter how efficient or powerful they become, will ever be as exciting as these old ones.

I loved flying on the BOAC VC-10s. Too bad they couldn't have retrofitted the quads with two larger more efficient engines and kept them flying. They would have looked like big Gulfstreams.

I forgot those planes required a flight engineer. I thought the FE just sat back there and watched the gauges. Watching that video he had a lot of work to do. You are right, to make the VC-10 competitive with today's jets they would have to update the entire flight system to eliminate the need for the FE. Probabaly a lot of other things that would need updating also. It sure was a beautiful plane though. New airline designs are getting boring. They are all trending toward the same basic two engine underwing configuration. I sure miss the VC-10, 707, and Concorde.

I had David Maltby's VC-10 in FS9. Do you know of a good one for FSX?

I believe DM's model works well in FSX. It's a real pilot's aeroplane. Nowadays airline pilots are so reliant on the computer systems that when something does go wrong they are out of the loop and often do not respond correctly.

Even the 10's AP was semi automatic in the sense that apart from landing the throttle is manual all the way. Did you notice the auto throttles in the video of the throttle up. That was a trick played by many a pilot in the past when passengers were invited onto the flight deck. Making them think that the throttles were moving automatically when it was in fact the FE moving them.

I'll have to try the VC-10 in FSX. Thanks.

I'm just the opposite and am trying to learn how to fly my first FMS plane, the Eaglesoft Citation X. I'm constantly getting into trouble and having to bail out of the autopilot and grab the yoke. Fortunately the plane hand flies beautifully.

I did notice the throttles moving in the video. I guess that confirms my status as an old fart as I just assumed they were being controlled by the flight engineer.
