  1. Ohhh it grew on me. Always seemed a bit like flying an ocean liner.... Big, lumbering, antiquated, but wonderful all the same.
  2. While it isn't entirely on topic, due to the lack of population and traffic, the Southern Pacific is regularly used to dump reentering satellites that need disposal. There is nothing there! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacecraft_cemetery
  3. Man, I wouldn't want to fly in that in real life. Nice shots!
  4. I am no expert on the aircraft, but I do not recall there being any shortcuts for this one. If you want to fly it, you will have to learn the process. And just wait until you get to navigating in the 154. The Soviets did it differently, thats for sure!
  5. Which are you talking about?
  6. I can't believe nobody has mentioned this: The Project Tupolev TU-154. From what I have been told, it is a pretty deeply modeled aircraft. And in my opinion, quite the challenge to learn, if you don't know cyrillic.
  7. Congratulation Andrew on following the dream and working your way up to the airlines! If I may ask, which has been your favorite to fly?
  8. A few pages back some guys complained that these GA aircraft feel slow. Well I just started flying in real life in a Schweizer 2-33 and 55 MPH feels really fast to me right now! These Pipers are complete speed demons! Anyways, looks like another great A2A aircraft. The Cherokee is a work of art, as so many have said. I hope some of its features get added to their older products again. I'm not done with my PA-28 yet!
  9. Those are really something. The third to last in particular places us right there in Innsbruck.
  10. Thank you everybody! It really is a beautiful area to fly in.
  11. After a few months off from flight sim, its time to get back into things. I have a great trip planned for the next few flights. Here is leg 1 of the Great Cherokee Adventure. (I used the A2A Cherokee, BlueSky photoscenery, ASN, and REX Essentials Plus. Sectionals courtesy of Skyvector) We start our flight in Montana at Laurel 6S8 just outside of Billings. Flight navigation is accomplished by hard IFR - I follow roads. Just in case we get lost, we have the Billings VOR. Before long, the nice farm land below turns to mountains. Somehow the road still goes here. Must be some drive. The sun begins to set as we come up on the airport. We spot the airport. Luckinbill WY06 is a narrow, unpaved private airport. Should be fun, don't you think? We carefully fly our pattern, keeping a watchful eye on the rising terrain. These narrow strips always seem to come up fast. Made it! Doesn't seem to be much here. I guess we will be camping out tonight! Thanks for viewing!
  12. Wow. Thats all I got.
  13. I think the FSX boxed copies may have been discontinued. (Completely a guess)
  14. I think Dovetail needs to decide what product they want to replace: MS Flight or FSX? The issue of course being that (in theory) the MS Flight product model makes more sense for a business. Its a limited area, they control the DLC, etc. The issue though is that this will never replace FSX.P3D, XP, etc. The simmers who post on forums such as this are looking for a solid base program to build a flight sim world off of. I'm just afraid that there isnt enough money in this for a company to invest in. Features? Stable. 64 bit. Whatever it takes. Good physics or the ability to use plugins to make a good flight model by DLC developers Realistic Scenery Realistic Night Lighting. The standard is now Xplane, so it should be at least that good. Weather at least on the level of FSX default. Full navigation aids. AI traffic If possible, ATC. But that is such a difficult task I think it is too much to ask for.
  15. Somewhere in Montana, if I remember correctly. Regarding file location, I have it on an external drive, so it should not matter.
  16. I really wish it was 8 euros for the Concorde!
  17. Well my primary aircraft these days are a DC-9 and a PA-28, so my autolands are fairly rare! In general I try to keep it realistic when it comes to autopilot usage. DC-9 sees extensive use, the Cherokee relatively little. I tend to seek out published visual approaches on airliner flights, which forces me to avoid autolands even when I do fly an appropriately equipped aircraft ...
  18. Just one screenshot today. I was flying the Cherokee into a randomly chosen private airstrip, only to discover that it doesn't exist in the simulator! The landing was a little hair raising. For those one want to find it, it is 2MT1.
  19. After downloading the entirety of BlueSky photoscenery, it's time to start exploring! Based on the recommendation of another user, I started by flying from KCNY to KBCE. I loaded the Cherokee, this time equipped with all of the Knots2U speed mods, with a full load of 4 people and half a tank of 100LL. After takeoff, we track the Hanksville VOR to the southwest. There were some truly amazing sites to be seen here. The following is definitely one of my favorites: The speeds mods took some getting used to, as the power settings that I was used to could easily place the airspeed into the yellow band. Additionally, thanks to ASN, there was a great deal of turbulence coming off the ridges. It was a very bumpy flight. I soon found myself face to face with a mountain ridge and was forced to fly south to avoid it. This airplane is not equipped with supplemental oxygen, so there was no way to fly above it safely. About an hour and a half later, it was time to land. The high altitude of Utah makes flying here very interesting. The field altitude here is 7500 ft. And there you have it! After this flight, I cannot recommend the free BlueSky photoscenery enough. It can take a while to download (the entire package is about 225gb!), but a smaller region such as southern Utah as shown here is quite reasonable. The A2A Cherokee and ASN were also used in these screen shots.
  20. Moving back towards the original few posts, flight simulation isn't cheap, thats for sure. But it isn't terrible, depending on how you look at it. I have friends who pay $60-$120 for video games in a given year, and then buy a new $300 console every couple of years. Well, I buy two new aircraft a year and the occasional weather addon for about $120 a year. I also recently spent about $300 on a new Saitek control set to upgrade from the joystick I had used for about 8 years. Is it all that different? Now if you are buying addons every month, buy scenery all of the time, etc, this will get very expensive. But thats different.
  21. Wonderful. #4 could be real.
  22. Well I guess I need to buy a copy of X-Plane now! I love classic airliners.... so much more character than anything else out there! Since it eats FPS, do you anticipate removing the circuit breakers from the FSX version? Or will it be included in a 2d panel?
  23. You're probably right. Its likely best to avoid committing myself to a 12 hour adventure before I try out the photoscenery. Avoiding the magenta line is actually exactly the point of this adventure. No GPS allowed!
  24. According to their website, it should be there! Definitely looks like something to visit. (image from their site)
