June 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Hey all, Had an iffy experience landing at Gatwick a few moments ago, I had selected 26L for arrival, but the aircraft instead lined up with 26R. Had to side-step last minute. As some of you might know, 26R is actually a taxiway, and is not operational (save for emergencies). Was wondering how to rectify this. Thanks! -- Addons used: PMDG 737 UK2000 EGKK v3 AIRAC1405 Aamir Thacker
June 2, 201412 yr Hello! Could that be due to FSX's "outdated magnetic variation". Just an idea - but maybe it helps. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336155-magnetic-variation-updates-for-fs9-and-fsx/ Enjoy flying and happy landings.
June 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Mag Var won't affect the actual signal from the ILS. @Aamir, did you confirm the actual freq and ident of 26L against the charts before you began your approach? That is what the approach brief is for, even in sim land Rob Prest
June 2, 201412 yr In sim land, check vs. the frequency in your scenery (map view). That freq. serves as 'the beam' for your ILS receiver. What happened to AVSIM
June 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Also check if you have latest version of AIRAC Airac wouldn't be an issue. Gatwick 26L has always been IWW 110.90 Best charts for UK airfields can be found here. http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=93&Itemid=142.html Regards Rob Prest
June 2, 201412 yr Author Commercial Member I had selected 26L in the FMC, double checked and confirmed. If the frequency for 26L in the aircraft's FMC is incorrect, how do I correct it? Thanks for the help, guys! Aamir Thacker
June 2, 201412 yr In the 737NG, you tune ILS frequencies manually, anyway. Your AIRAC data seems to be o.k., looks like your airport scenery needs an update? You can edit AFCAD files with freeware tools. (Airport Design Editor for example, IIRC.) What happened to AVSIM

That is what the approach brief is for, even in sim land ... sure, but as it was often reported that the ILS "beam" in FSX tended to guide the airplanes comming in some way off centreline due to the dated stock magnetic variation, i considered it a possible option at least that two parallel runways lying rather close together such as 26R and 26L at Gatwick are may somehow be "mixed" up due to magnetic variation. But then again - just an idea and chances are certainly high that it is something completely different anyway! In the 737NG, you tune ILS frequencies manually, anyway. +1 Enjoy flying and happy landings.
