June 3, 201412 yr A person just can't get away fro the pesky things... http://video.foxnews.com/v/3603280140001/sunbather-scare-plane-nearly-lands-on-tanning-beachgoer/#sp=show-clips
June 3, 201412 yr Had I been the person on the beach it would've been just my luck luck to sit up at just the right / wrong moment and received a new style hair cut! Was it really as close as it looked to me? Mel
June 3, 201412 yr Author Was it really as close as it looked to me? If you watch the video again, you will see the shadow of the a/c go right over the guy. That's pretty conclusive that this was not an effect of depth of field or long optics. The nose wheel almost hit the guy's head and some part of the plane did hit the fence.
June 3, 201412 yr Of course, sunbathing is forbidden in that very spot ... Commentary on German TV today was, the plane was possibly hit by a gust. What happened to AVSIM
June 3, 201412 yr That's pretty conclusive that this was not an effect of depth of field or long optics. Thanks for the affirmation Tom. That's the way I saw it also. I do question my judgment once in awhile just to keep myself in line (well at least I try). My worst sunbathing / beach experience: A pelican playing bomb the human, dead on target! I made it to the water at a gallop. Mel
June 3, 201412 yr It looks like to me he had plenty of time to apply power if there was really a downdraft or something. His approach seemed stable, but the end of the glide was kind of above the poor guy relaxing under the sun hahahaha Alexis Mefano
June 4, 201412 yr Author It looks like to me he had plenty of time to apply power if there was really a downdraft or something. His approach seemed stable, but the end of the glide was kind of above the poor guy relaxing under the sun hahahaha He apparently was interviewed by German TV and admitted that he under shot the approach.
June 4, 201412 yr He apparently was interviewed by German TV and admitted that he under shot the approach. That explains it then. Glad nothing worse happened. People really shouldn't be allowed that close to the end of the runway. Alexis Mefano
