June 7, 201411 yr Okay I am using 777-300 in X-Plane to fly from PHLI to PHNL, and I'm using EFASS as my flight planning software, it gives me a route of: BOOKE V15 SHIGI V12 HNL V2 LNY I'm not sure how to enter this into the FMC correctly. So far I assume i press DEP/ARR and select DEP, and then select LIHUE as my sid and then 35 as my takeoff runway? When looking at the actual flight path on the map, it seems as the route takes me all the way past PHNL to the island of Lanai, and does a 180 and heads back to PHNL? This doesn't sound right to me. Sorry guys I can't figure out how to do flight planning, after watching so many videos on youtube I'm still confused. :( I just want to be able to enter in a simple, but realistic flight plan that real pilots use in the real world from PHLI-PHNL, so I can just basically hit AP, LNAV/VNAV and have the plane fly the route. I don't want to have to use charts and flight maps to plan a route out. I just want to be able to find real world routes from online sites such as flightaware and then figure out how to enter them into the FMS. Some help is appreciated, thanks! Seems like the logical choice without having to have VECTORS show up in the legs page is to select runway 21 and use DIANE1 SID and trans to BOOKE. I tried many possible combinations to see which one wouldn't give me a vector. So looks like i will use this as a starting point. Is there an easier way to determine which SID/STAR to choose while avoiding to be vectored since i dont use ATC or fly online? June 7, 201411 yr Author Rick Butler thanks, but how do I know which runway to use for that plan you gave me? and how do i exactly enter this into the FMC? Do i goto DEP/ARR and select diane1, runway 21, and then go to the rte button and enter en oloyi on the right side and then on the next line put v15 on the left? This is so confusing. I need somebody to walk me step by step. What runway do I select to land? Any transitions? An airway is basically a collection of pre-defined waypoints? June 7, 201411 yr Hi Aaron, runway choice depends on the wind. The DIANE1 departure is for runway 21 only. If the wind was coming out of the north then you would use runway 35, which is the LIHUE5 departure. For landing, again, depends on the wind. US STARS generally only bring you down to a termination point (in this case HNL VOR) where ATC will take you from there and vector you to final. While this is fine in the realworld, it's not so great for us simmers. As for entering into your FMC, I don't have that plane, or xplane. But what you have in your FMC looks bang on to me. When I gave you that flight plan I was trying to give you something you could enter into the FMC so you had a few things to play with (waypoints etc.). If I was to do this flight right now, this is what I would do using the following weather at dep and dest.: PHLI 071553Z 07013KT 10SM FEW024 SCT029 BKN042 24/20 A3003 RMK AO2 SLP165 T02390200 PHNL 071553Z 06009KT 10SM FEW027 SCT038 24/18 A3000 RMK AO2 SLP157 T02390178 Runway 3, LIHUE3 dep to BOOKE, then instead of the BOOKE8 arrival, I would do BOOKE transition to ILS 08L. You have to be flexible with your routes, they don't always have to use STARS. Hope that clears a bit up for you. Rick Butler CYZH
