June 7, 201411 yr All, Was wondering if anyone has or has had an issue with the batteries no longer functioning or running the avionics. This is a fresh install of FSX and the PMDG JS141, when starting a new flight and turning the engines off, everything dies. Have to use ground power to keep the avionics going. Same thing with starting from Cold & Dark, have to activate the ground power unit to do my pre-flight. Granted in am now using WIN 8.1 x64, however I did have this same issue with Windows 7 x64. (Note that other than this issue, the full line of PMDG works great under Windows 8.1 x64). Am using FSUPC with the batter option on for unlimited, FSUIPC is required for FS Global Weather 2010. I can get by without the use of the batteries and still enjoy the aircraft, I was just wondering why it would happen on a fresh install and if anyone else came across this problem. PMDG support did mentioned that it should not happen yet it does. Any thoughts would be a appreciated, as I stated, I can get by without it. The batteries aren't really meant to run everything. That's what the GENs and GPU are for. Batteries are for the emergency items only, and there really shouldn't be a time when you're trying to do things on the batt alone. Kyle Rodgers
June 7, 201411 yr Author Kyle, Thanks for the info. I thought as much, was looking back into the documentation and found something similar to your response. There was a time where it did power the avionics and such to where I can get a pushback and then startup, but as such have to startup at the gate and manually do a push back (depending if I am in general parking or not). Again, thanks for the info. I figured I was doing it right, just wanted another opinion on the matter. Michael Madness Software Michael Lagow Madness Software

Gotcha - see where this is coming up as a "problem" for you. It's actually a common misconception. J41s didn't actually get pushed back. Note the orientation of the J41s. On a couple of the parking spots, you can actually see the lead-out lines that lead the pilot away from the gate. The plane is small and nimble enough to just turn away and taxi out without the need for a pushback. So, your flow is as follows: Start ENG 1 (the GPU is behind ENG 2, and the exhaust is hot enough that it could burn the rampie trying to remove the GPU) Select GEN 1 on. De-select the GPU. Instruct the ramp to remove the GPU (remove it yourself using the Ramp Manager) Start ENG 2 Taxi out on your own power (this may require you to position the aircraft appropriately when loading the sim, because it would be using specialized lead-in lines that most sceneries do not have) Kyle Rodgers
June 8, 201411 yr Author Kyle, Thanks for the info. As I stated I thought I would doing it correctly, so as long as I position myself to where I can taxi out from the gate I am in good shape. I appreciate your insight in this. Michael Madness Software Michael Lagow Madness Software
June 11, 201411 yr In addition to what has already been said, it is generally recommended avionics are kept OFF until after engine start in the J41, this avoids them receiving a possible power spike when the source switches over from GPU to GENs. In reality when a battery start is performed, they generally begin starting the first engine within about 45 seconds of turning the batteries on as they're only just powerful enough to run the starter motor! Whilst in the USA the J41 might not have been pushed back, they certainly powerback here in the UK (Eastern do this at EGPD) and very occasionally get pushed back. Although taxying straight out is still by far the most common, where this isn't possible the turning circle is pretty impressive too. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
