June 17, 201411 yr I think I've come up with some reasonably good settings for Orbx Squamish airport and surrounding area ... loaded P3DV2.2 with some ASN live weather at Dusk/Night. YouTube may take a little time converting it to 1440p, but hopefully it'll eventually get there: These are my dawn/sunset graphics settings: http://robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Setting_Sunset.php These are my Squamish Control Panel settings: http://robainscough.com/Airport_-_Squamish_BC.php What I noticed about Squamish is that enabling grass (could be related to SimObject shadows being enabled) would induce a heavy fps hit. So tried to enable as much as I could and keep a fluid flight experience in the area. Frame rate counter is in the upper left corner ... recorded with nVidia ShadowPlay. Cheers, Rob.
June 17, 201411 yr Great stuff ! Thanks for the grass tip. When flying in this area, I've started using FSGRW instead of ASN. Less of a fps hit using FSGRW.
June 17, 201411 yr So is the consensus that FSGRW is pretty much always less of a FPS hitter than ASN?
June 17, 201411 yr So is the consensus that FSGRW is pretty much always less of a FPS hitter than ASN? All can be configured to be more or less fps heavy ... I have FSGRW, Opus, and ASN. I think why some believe there is an fps difference is because of each product's default settings. FSGRW tends to use more Stratus clouds while ASN uses more Cumulus (hard on fps) out of the box ... you can set cloud layers along with "realistic overcast" and more ... FSGRW has as slider that will shift the balance from Stratus to Cumulus (calling Cumulus less realistic but prettier ... which is kinda an odd thing to suggest). But basically weather performance boils down to this: 1. Cloud density setting 2. Draw Distance 3. Use of Cumulus 4. Layers 5. Realistic overcast 6. Volumetric Fog Adjust these settings to meet your fps goals. My ASN settings (dialed them back): Cheers, Rob.
June 17, 201411 yr Thanks again Rob. Glad to hear you think it's a wash and more about settings. For whatever reason I much prefer ASN. Just seems faster and more user friendly to me.
