June 27, 201411 yr Hi all, As my cockpit is almost ready I am thinking about upgrading my server ( outside view pc ). See my pc specs for my current config. I can buy a second hand 3930 or 4790 for around 240 euro, a second hand 4930 for 400 euro and a second hand 4960 for 580. I currently have very good 8 Gb 2133 G.Skill Ripjaws ( 2x 4 gb ) with custom G.Skill memory fan module. With a 2011 socket I need to buy new memory as exactly the same is not made anymore ( the 2200 mhz version is ). With a 1150 socket I can re-use the memory. What would you advice and why ? 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 27, 201411 yr Hi Gerad If you not want to run Quad Channel you can reuse your mems set Xmp should read 2133 instead of 2200 timings shall be after xmp then run 166mhz strap set the memdivider to 1333 you get 2012mhz with xmp timings. I prefer 4790K the 2011 can proably handle textureload better , i was not impressed of the 4960X in FSX. http://
June 27, 201411 yr Author Hi Hasse, For my cockpit I use 3x 32" HD led tv's for one wide outside view. Fast texture loading is needed as I use photo scenery for the greatest part of the underground. Lod set to 5.5 as any higher loads to OOM. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 27, 201411 yr I run 3X27 (5760X1080) for outside but not much photo scenry i tested 2 differnt 4960X and was not pleased with the framerate. The differens was 5-6fps to much for me. The memspeed with 166 strap is 2212 not 2012 a wrote down the wrong number. http://
June 27, 201411 yr Dazz , agree but if your cracy like me its ok , took a pic of my collection of hard to find mems it is worth it ? no way but they ar really fast. http://

I just got the 4790k and I'm very impressed with it but your CPU is about 10% slower clock for clock which means if you get 30 fps now switching to the 4790k will only give you about 3 more fps not really worth the $500 it'll cost to switch out the mobo and CPU as you'll want to get a new z97 board if your going to run the 4790k. I'd wait till broadwell is released and see how it performs then consider an upgrade ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170

I just ordered a 4790K, using a 2500K now and am hoping I'll be impressed too! June 29, 201411 yr David, Can you tell me, what did you upgrade from? I just ordered a 4790K, using a 2500K now and am hoping I'll be impressed too! Thanks, I upgraded from a AMD fx8350A 4790k is about 17% faster than the 2500k clock for clock so a 4790k at 4.2 GHz is equivalent to a 2500k clocked at 4.9ghz. ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. That might be true, but you won't get 17% more fps.My 2600K is running @ 4.8 Ghz. A 4790k at 4.5 Ghz would be 5-7% faster , but in fps it probably would mean 3-5%..,,+ 1-1.5 fps 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
