Baro knob operation question

Featured Replies

Passing the transition altitude and pressing STD, should that change the baro number to standard pressure? In other airplanes, it remembers your last setting so when pressing STD again, it goes back to what it was previously set at. Is the 777 different?

Is the 777 different?

Yes.  You pre-set it (it'll show up smaller underneath the "STD" text), and then press STD.

Remember that the 777 is an aircraft that flies some pretty long legs.  As such, the BARO setting is likely going to be completely different such that remembering the setting prior to hitting STD would be completely worthless.  The world is vastly dynamic, weather-wise.  After 8-12 hours of flying, the baro setting in one area alone is going to be vastly different...

In 12 hours, the settings changed by 00.30 in a single location.  Like I mentioned earlier: having it remember what you'd set it at when you passed trans alt would be largely useless on a plane that covers such large distances.

Thank you for the reply. I know about pre-setting after it is on standard before transitioning again, but was wondering whether it was normal to reset to default transition. It is a little annoyance when pre-setting on descent to always have to change it from 1013. In the 747 it remembers and stays on the last set number.

Pretty sure the real one doesn't do that, if you're referring to a previous offering.

It is.

Press B before you change from STD and it will preselect the local altimeter. (and yes, this is in the manual...)
