Cold & Dark Startup

I have been reading the PMDG 737 NGX manuals carefully.

My only question is : what do pilots in de real world do first when they enter the cockpit ?

What do they do before programming the FMC ?

Do they start the battery and ground power first and then program the FMC ?

Or do they first program the FMC and then the rest ?

I hope to fly a real simulator wich you can find on http://www.efsimulator.com/

They would do safety equipment checks such as checking the serviceability of fire extinguisher(s) in the cockpit, fire axe, escape ropes, oxygen masks and etc. They will also look at maintenance logs to see if there's any problems with regards to the airworthiness of the aircraft. If there's a ground power unit on the tarmac, they would use it to power the aircraft. Otherwise, the APU would be used. And one of the pilots will align the Inertial Reference Units (IRUs) to align the aircraft's position by entering the GPS position in the Initial Reference (INIT REF) page of the FMC. And the rest are the exterior walkaround inspection, systems integrity test, entering route into FMC, checking loadsheets and many more.

'There's no reason to not like flying'

Depends on many things.

For one, if they change crews, or first flight of the day, outstation or company station...

Most commonly you would change places with another crew, you would find the aircraft powered up, either on APU or ground power, IRS may or may not be already in ALIGN mode. If this is the situation one pilot can start programming the FMS right away while the other does exterior check.

Thanks Fabo.

Just imagine it's early in the morning, and you 're the first crew of the day to fly this Boeing 737

A typical flight goes something like this:

- Check that the jet has proper electrical power, complete electrical power up procedure if necessary.

- Run through a preliminary preflight procedure which mainly consists of checking the aft overhead panel, circuit breakers and emergency equipment.

- Initialize and load the FMC.

- Go outside and do the walk-around inspection.

- Go back into terminal to Starbucks and procure a Tall Pike Place, black, no sugar.

- Cockpit preflight procedure.

- Fly.

I left out the most important part of the preflight ritual which is to locate and secure the trash bag for the cockpit.
