August 25, 201411 yr Commercial Member That singular thread, while it might be an amazingly interesting read (no, probably not)... isn't really going to get things going in here. So... to see what happens... I'll ask a question, or two. Say I want to use the Outerra engine... can I set up land class information? Generate buildings and roads and water? In the area of creating the visible world, how far can I go with the Outerra engine at this point in time? Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
August 25, 201411 yr Many Users have already generated buildings, vehicles (including the planes we have all seen the pictures of) and other objects. Some information can be found here: http://xtrac.outerraworld.com/ Lots of people have also imported things from sketchup, blender and etc. User and Bugslake has provided a detailed example of Importing from 3DS Max to Outerra. http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=1946.0 The Middle Earth Demo included with Outerra was a third-party attempt at Scenery designing. http://www.me-dem.me.uk/ Other tools are built directly into the program and allow limited user modification, such as adding roads of various types and placing buildings. The developers have mentioned their plans to refine and further develop the tools, eventually allowing tree and water placement/modification and things like "splatting" a common technique in such procedural engines. Osm Integration similar to that used by X-plane 10 is in the works. A spiritual precursor to Outerra is a program by the name of Proland, and I believe that most of the functionality shown within that program will become publicly available within Outerra eventually. Perhaps one of the developers will be enticed to answer you further! Proland - Real-time planet rendering V: terrain editing Outerra - Building a Road in the Mountains We are all connected..... August 25, 201411 yr Eric Bruneton and others responsible for Proland also outlined some techniques for real-time water tech that I'm hoping might eventually appear in some form within Outerra. I'm not sure that the traditional (and time consuming) hand modification of broad scenery outlines will be nearly as important in something like Outerra, where much of the scenery appearance will probably be primarily data-driven, using things like OSM. August 28, 201411 yr And yet again, i am really impressed - although i already knew about some of the features mentioned here, the video about the "real-time-water-tech" was absolutely new to me! Awesome! Thank You very much for showing it here as well Devon! Enjoy flying and happy landings.
