Upgrading RAM (could this help)?

Featured Replies

My sistem specs:

CPU: Intel i7 4790k @4.6Ghz

Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 760 4GB OC

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VI Hero

Ram: KingMax 16GB 1333mhz

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850W G2

Case: Corsair VENGEANCE C70

Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H110

I have a question, I want to upgrade my RAM because what I have now is from my previous build, i5-2500k, if I buy faster ram's will I see improvements in x-plane?

I'm thinking that newer faster ram's will help the new CPU perform better/faster because of the new architecture.

IMHO anything higher than 1333 will still be effectively 1600 and will change but little, maybe 3%

and maybe its your 760 that is your limitation right now but then again I would stay with 4G rather than regress to 3G

Don't understand me wrong, I have great performance with my setup, 30FPS locked by nVidia Inspector. But since my RAM is old and 1333MHZ i thought that changing them could help me raise the bar a little more(crank the options a bit more than I have now). I have no complaints, X-Plane is running perfect.

Video RAM is what will improve X-Plane performance (At least it did for me). Once your system starts to exhaust the video RAM, you'll get stutters and pauses which can be quite frustrating. I didn't find increasing my main RAM helped, since this was never a bottleneck for me to start with, although if you are using lots of scenery, e.g. HD Mesh, Photo, World2XPlane and you would like to use the intended increased-visibility range coming in 10.35?? then more RAM would definitely not hurt you here.

I don't want more RAM but faster ones 2400mhz or 2133mhz, video memory I have enough, I barely use 1300mb, I don't have FPS issues even in overcast situation. My question was if faster rams could help in any way x-plane?

It really sounds like you don't have performance problems anyway, so I doubt you'd see much of a difference at all in regards to FPS. I've heard of people buying top-of-the range graphics cards and fast memory only to find about 20% of the system's potential being used by X-Plane because of other factors, such as bus speed or a slower CPU.

Thank you guys, I'll stick with current ram and I'll buy one SSD, Samsung EVO 512gb, I don't have one!

Thx a million for answers!!!
