1900D fps drop - help

Featured Replies

I had been flying last couple of flights in DX10 mode, but decided to switch back to DX9 as I didn't like the loss of papi and runway lights at some airports.

I deleted my FSX.cfg and rebuilt it, then applied a few basic tweaks like HIGHMEMFIX & Affinity mask etc.

However, when loading the Carenado 1900D (cold & dark) the fps drop to between 1-5 (yes just 1-5!) which makes the aircraft unusable.

To check if there were other settings causing problems, I loaded the default 737-800 and the fps was back up to 35-45!

Has anyone experienced such a fps drop with this aircraft and is there anything that can be changed (textures etc) to help improve fps with this craft?

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a similar experience with this aircraft but am slowly tweaking my FPS back up to the 30's.

heres some tips on what helped me.

first make a save of your fsx.cfg. i don't wantbto be held responsible for problems :)

Google Bojote's fsx tweak and add your pc details on the page in the 4 pull down menus. Follow thebinstructions carefully then download the tweaked cfg for your pc

secondly how fo you control framerate? Internal frame limiter eats quite a few FPS for me. Try setting that to unlimited and use an external frame limiter. I use the one in Nvidia inspector

Lastly.. try turning off high definition cockpit (bare with me). This doesn't look as bad as you may think. Then press shift and 5 whilst in the aircraft then turn off the tick boxes for graphic extras.

now try the aircraft again and see what you get. If it runs well.. you can add the high def cockpit and a few more extras.

hope this helps mate. Let me know how it works for you.

also.. if like me, you use a laptop with a processor around the I3 range but with a decent gpu.. you should look at the bufferpools=0 tweak. This offloads texture loading from CPUto GPU

Its a beautiful aircraft. I love the lights and cockpit noises whilst taxiing

Thanks Miggy, just sighted your post as I have been on holiday.

Re. Your suggestion re high def cockpit: doesnt that remove the vc altogether? The 1900D doesnt have a 2D cockpit?

Also,I'm not at my pc at the mo,but what graphic extras can one turn off with shift 5, and is this the holy grail to improving fps with this aircraft.

Are there any other specific tweaks with gauges etc, or texture changes e.g. converting to dxt that might help?

Any further suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Stuart

Stuart, did you already disable the weather radar in the panel? This won't remove the actual gauge and the other features it offers, just the radar subscreen (which works kinda funny anyway).

Your described fps drops sound rather severe, so I don't know if this will cure anything, but you can look for

gauge00=WX_Gauge_3D_1900D!WXGauge in [Vcockpit02] of the panel.cfg at SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado B1900D\panel and comment it out with placing // in front of the entry.

Looks like this

//gauge00=WX_Gauge_3D_1900D!WXGauge,    513,  0,509,320

As for texture conversions. I'm not sure if those really help on fairly modern cards. There's a point in reducing repeating cloud textures but the plane ones may not hit you that hard.

Thanks CoolP,

I have tried other suggestions re. unchecking the HD vc box in FSX aircraft options and turning off the graphic options under [shift][5], and that seems to have boosted fps from 5-9 to 12-14.

I will try your suggestion too. Trying to find what is the biggest fps killer for me with this plane.

I followed your tips coolp, and it seems like this has deactivated the GPS rather than the Avidyne weather radar.  I just get a black box when trying to use the GPS, yet Avidyne still functions as normal.  Are you sure that is the correct code line?

Stuart, I'm in a similar position to you with regards to wanting to get the most out of this aircraft.  Its a beautiful plane to fly.  Its unusual as I get amazing frames with it whilst using external view yet it can crawl in cockpit view.  there is a service pack available for it that you should make sure you have, as that will improve things.  Sometimes seems like I just get everything tweaked nicely for using this aircraft then a situation occurs that slows it right down again.  Its really hard to consider even using stock planes again after flying something as nice as the B1900D

Sorry for chain posting, but you did mention you switched from DX10.  Was this aircraft giving you good frames when you used DX10?  It could be that you would benefit from using DX10 if thats the case, and using Steve's DX10 fixer to address the other issues.  I stick with DX10 now and find it improves my framerate over DX9, plus I get the extra visuals

Can't remember if I flew this in DX10 or not. I don't really want to go back to DX10, unless I can solve the missing papi / runway lights at some of my airports. Steve's Fixer is no longer available, only the freeware fix he made on Avsim, otherwise I might be tempted again to try DX10.

Cheers

Miggy,

Just tried switching to DX10 again with the 1900D and unfortunately things just got worse.

Re. the Service Pack that you mentioned - I purchased the download install from JustFlight.com and it seems you need to have purchased through Carenado direct in order to get access to the released patch. They say that they release all updates to online sellers and that it is then their responsibility to update their products online.  I have submitted a request to Carenado to see if they would provide me a link, but we shall see!   Meanwhile, could you check for me what version if the aircraft you have, having applied the patch.  Not sure though if the patch updates the Aircraft.cfg file, but mine states the following at the top of the file:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
//14OCT09
//VERSION 1.10.1016
//
//PMDG BAe JS4100 for FSX
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Thanks again for your help,
Stuart

Sorry that was the wrong cfg.

My mistake. Let me know what version of the B1900 (with patch) that you are running if you can and I'll check it against mine.

Cheers

I followed your tips coolp, and it seems like this has deactivated the GPS rather than the Avidyne weather radar.

Yikes, that shouldn't happen and wasn't intended. I can't explain it from the // commented line since this just touches on the wx gauge. But I'm using the RXP GPS so I would never recognise anything in regard to the default Carenado GPS. Maybe I, therefore, didn't catch that dependency.

Anyways, apologies. I hope you have a backup of the panel.cfg in place. :blush: Sorry again. If you need help resetting the file, I have a backup.

Stuart, what's your system again? Just out of interest and perhaps to sort of estimate how the B1900 should hit it. It's a nice looking plane for sure and comes with decent textures, but, on my ageing system, e.g. the TBM is much, much worse while still flyable.

Are you running other fancy addon planes to sort of compare the impact? Any Realair Turbine Duke around or some jets? Or take other Carenados. How are they running?

Since you've posted some J41 details. That plane should hit harder than the B1900 for example.

CoolP,

My system is also quite old but runs some other aircraft reasonably with FSX toned down.

Apart from the 1900D, I mainly fly at the moment the Aerosoft Twin Otter, so manage 25-30 fps at detailed airports. I have in the past run the LevelD 767, and although fps were lower than freeware aircraft like Project Airbus etc., it was never lower than 10-12 fps.

I do have the PMDG J41, but have not yet tried it as it seems to need an Activation Code, which I don't know where to find. The box only has a Registration key which it doe not seem to accept. If I can resolve this issue I shall be able to compare the two on my system.

My system spec is as follows:

AMD PHENOM II QUAD CORE, 2.7 GHZ CPU

8 GBYTES SDRAM

XFX GEFORCE 260 2GB GRAPHICS CARD

flyuk_sig.php?id=UKV3373

Thanks for the details.

Certainly not the freshest system these days but, with having in mind how it handles other planes, not stopping you form enjoying the sim.  :smile:  If it runs the TwinOtter nicely, we might rule out that hires textures alone lead to a severe fps loss. Or are you talking about the older Twin Otter, not the "Extended" one which came out last year or so? This new Twotter also uses hires textures and would be a good comparison.

As for the PMDG J41 plane and the code: Check their website and use the ticket system (that's how they handle support directly). Give them all the details and codes you got from your box purchase and they should be able to help you. It's a very nice plane and would also allow for adjustments on weaker systems.

I did mention it because, with default options, it's quite a task. But, as said, that plane can be tuned with the provided tools and then is very enjoyable. You can for example tone down or completely turn off the FO displays, which helps.

Back to the B1900, I'm out of ideas. Mind you that Carendo offers refunds if you email them and state the reasons for it. There's no use for a plane you can't run with at least double digit fps. Maybe they can offer you another one (so they still keep you as a customer). Just don't pick anything with glass gauges then. :BigGrin:

Thanks for all your advice.

I have emailed PMDG support, re the J41 activation code so will see if I get a response, if not shall try the ticket system. The reason that I have not yet tried the J41, is because I'm currently flying for the VA FlyUK, which don't have that aircraft in the fleet.

I have managed to get the 1900D to around 14-18 fps on the ground, having tried all the above suggestions, so hopefully will be able to enjoy the aircraft if the frames stay at this level during a whole flight.

Thanks again for all you advice.

Keep me updated on your progress my friend. I think regarding the serial for the J41. I may be wrong but some aircraft need you to run the installer then you need to click activate and enter your key which it then converts to a serial. Have you tried playing with the installation menu a little?

back to the 1900D. Don't give up on this plane yet. Diring my tweaking I managed to get a solid framerate of 40 whilst running Opusfx weather, Orbx scenery and freetrack trackir in the background. Umfortunately I don't know which tweak aided this as I have overtweaked it back down to 15fps.

Few pointers.

have you tried Bojotes fsx online tweaker?

is your affinity mask tweak set correctly for your machone?

do you use Nvidia Inspector? I'm startimg to suspect that the way this plane uses anti aliasing could explain a lot.

Have you made sure you have no programs still trying to apply DX10 features to an FSX that you are now running in DX9?

Stay with me and we'll get this thing flying!

Regarding Steves DX10 fixer, and the service pack 1 for the B1900. I can help you in getting both if that is of interest to you?
