Orbx NRM- PNW  Leg 8  Tipella - Orcas

Our tour will take us out of British Columbia and into the Cascade Mountains of Washington State, and then to Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands finally finishing at Eastsound on Orcas Island.

PNW%2B8.jpg

Departing Tipella CBB7, the route heads south 34nm, mostly over Harrison Lake but with a brief section over mountains before arriving at Hope CYHE.  From Hope the route follows the valley leading south to the northern shoreline of Ross Lake (on the Canada US border), then turns to the west-southwest (Hdg 218) into North Cascades National Park and the snow covered peak of Mt Shuksan.  Staying to the south of Mt Shuksan we will follow Baker Lake south (with excellent views of Mt Baker to our right) to Concrete, landing at Mears Field 3W5.  Departing Concrete the route follows the Sauk River for the short segment to Darrington 1S2.  From Darrington , fly heading 287 over the mountains north of the Stillaguamish River to land at Israels Farm WA56,  then proceed on to our next stop at Skagit Regional KBVS.  Departing Skagit the route crosses the bay and Oil Refinery on Anacortes Island where we perform a Touch and Go at Anacortes 74S.  After the Touch and Go, proceed to Deception Pass and fly in and under one section of the bridge and out and under the second section of the bridge, then head north-northeast (Hdg 009) to land at the private field at Westwind 7WA3.  Leaving Westwind the route turns to the west (Hdg 226) passing over Bellingham International and finishes at Orcas Island Airport KORS.

Because this is a relatively long leg I recommend that you chose an aircraft that is reasonably fast (160+knts) but able to get in/out of small airstrips.  I will be flying VansRV7A.

Just a reminder, please take your "current" (title=) name of the aircraft you will be flying today from the aircraft.cfg and use the spreadsheet to enter it.

This leg features many Orbx airport sceneries as noted below.

Slightly slow, but a grand old lady. The Taifun deserves a chance to fly.

And she is capable of a short field landing. To the surprise of a flock of birds.

The route looks to be truly delicious. Looking forward to this.

I'd keep you company Mike but I'm still blowing the thing up! I WILL get the hang of that prop pitch doohickey! In the meantime, I shall be flying an RV7

Once again it's a tight fit. Can someone at least find us an airport with a proper/actual taxiway? Who are these people?
Screen_09062014_140136.jpg

If it's flat, and some sort of foliage... These guys will land on it.
Screen_09062014_143033.jpg

"Seattle Center, Spartan One Two Romeo Sierra with you. We have 6 unidentified flying objects with us."
Screen_09062014_143842.jpg

On UNICOM - "Roger, have the Kodiak (Rob) in sight." ... "We are still IFR" - (I follow roads)
Screen_09062014_144006.jpg

Just Purdy.... Left or Right? Follow the river!
Screen_09062014_145127.jpg

Screen_09062014_145752.jpg

Screen_09062014_151407.jpg

Once again over UNICOM - "Hurry up! I hear the ice cream truck!"
Screen_09062014_152230.jpg

This is what happens when an airport has a proper taxiway. Proper. Somewhat, dequorum.
Screen_09062014_152602.jpg

Ron coming in very nicely at Israel's Farm.. What comes next is available at www.thisiswhathappenswhenfsgoestitsup.edu. For a small fee you can get a life size poster of the result. (Jeff at the end, front row.)
Screen_09062014_154251.jpg

Just another of one of those "lovely" pics.
Screen_09062014_154449.jpg

Jeff,, into the sunset as we are still sitting in our own cockpits slopping up ice cream cones, sandwiches, n such. Courtesy of "Israel" himself. Suddenly the controls are sticky. On UNICOM - "Anyone have a "wet nap"?
Screen_09062014_154925.jpg

SMOG!
Screen_09062014_155518.jpg

Could it be from here?
Screen_09062014_160153.jpg

BRIDGES ... What shall one do?
Screen_09062014_160611.jpg

What does that little orange blob mean hanging off a "sagging" tension wire like that?
Screen_09062014_160616.jpg

It means.... Are you kiddin me? And..
Screen_09062014_160712.jpg

Go the road less travelled. In this case a river & mmmmm, another bridge.
Screen_09062014_160728.jpg

Once again - "Seattle Center, Spartan One Two Romeo Sierra with you. We still have 6 unidentified flying objects with us." "They seem to be faster?"
Screen_09062014_161106.jpg

Purdy.. That is all.
Screen_09062014_161228.jpg

And again, Purdy.
Screen_09062014_161608.jpg

"SEATTLE CENTER. NOTAM! Westwind, Seven Whiskey Alpha Three is brodcasting in the open. RNWY 34 is now MEIL for the next 30 minutes!" D-EBDI on port, NC12RS on starboard. (AVSIM RTWR Style!)
Screen_09062014_162629.jpg

Rob has got more candle power than a candle maker trying to put out a fire in the candle making fatory. Still.. Looking good, got the NOTAM and is "threadin da needle".
Screen_09062014_162746.jpg

Bry doing it RTWR style - "da needle"
Screen_09062014_162824.jpg

Ron over the top, just about ready to plant it nicely.
Screen_09062014_162939.jpg

'OL GLORY in the background. Telling us the wind. The background is purdy darn nice too.
Screen_09062014_163039.jpg

The last one in buys... That is the rule. Ron bringin it in at KORS. " I want a hambuger, no.. A cheeseburger - A hot dog "
Screen_09062014_164737.jpg

Rob was real nice draining his batteries while we where all inside having $100 burgers on Ron's behalf. 8 very expensive aeroplanes, 2 irreplaceable, all of 'em necessary! Everyone has the exits open, master keys still inside. The croud inside was questionable.
