Want to buy a new PC for FSX, not clever enough to build it myself!

Hi Rick

That sounds a really good idea. Although I am not a regular subscriber, I try and pick up a copy of PCP whenever I can. Actually I have been away from FS for some time, although I did a fair bit of controlling on VATSIM for a while mostly as GND controller at EGSS, which I got to know quite well!

At some time I would like to do some online flying with VATSIM (when I get a bit more proficient with the 737NGX and when I can get my next computer rig!)

I will see if I can find any records of comparisons in past issues of PC Pilot via their website, but if you could come up with any that would be great.

Does anyone know where I can buy an overclocked system in Canada?

I agree that the hassle of doing it yourself and the uncertainty of not know if your doing it correctly is not worth the few bucks saved!

Memory Express is where I got mine. They have stores in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Winnipeg. I can build a computer by myself, but just for convenience I let them build it for me and I do the rest (OS install, etc). That, and hauling tons of heavy boxes on a bus to bring home and assemble it would be impossible.

As for the overclocking, there's plenty of videos and tutorials to show you how to do it. You won't be able to get an extreme overclock, but something pretty decent. I don't have my system pushed to the max, because I'm conservative. There's actually lots of motherboards out there now which have an auto-overclock feature which will find the perfect overclock settings based on your hardware. No knowledge of overclocking is required.

Chaps!

OK job done (nearly!). Ordered my new rig from Wired2fire yesterday. Luckily, they are not far from where I live, so I was able to pop over there and discuss it in detail. Now I just have to wait a couple of weeks or so for delivery. I have to say that they were very helpful and I feel that I can trust them to do a great job. Having tried to fly with frame rates of what seemed like 3 frames per year the demonstration they gave me made me realise just how much improvement I could expect with a decent setup.

Many thanks to all who responded to my post. Cheers all.
