September 7, 201411 yr Can someone explain how to get VFR flight following with Pilot2ATC? I've gotten approach to respond to me but, they ask me what my "approach intentions" are and I have no idea how to respond to that. I would have expected a squawk and instructions to maintain VFR plus any restrictions. Gregg Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. September 7, 201411 yr Commercial Member Gregg, In the Grammar Helper Screen, under Center, Departure or Approach controller there is the VFR Flight Following Request. Here is one of the example phrases: "Center, Beech One Victor Bravo en route to Kilo Whiskey Lima Echo at Four Thousand Five Hundred, Request Flight Following." The "?" button is your friend when wondering what to say in Pilot2ATC. Dave

I got them to recognize it but when they asked me approach intentions I was scratching my head. First off, if I'm 300 miles away from my destination, I might not really know yet. Second, I guess I'd tell them VFR pattern entry if they'd ask that question. I'd either cancel flight following near the airport or they'd switch me to tower (or unicom). September 7, 201411 yr Commercial Member Hi Gregg. It sounds like the controller did not interpret what you said as a request for VFR Flight Following. About the only time you should be asked for approach intentions is when making an initial call to Approach Control or Tower without an IFR Flight Plan and without specifying an approach type or if there is no ILS available and you are on an IFR flight plan. You should have been given a Squawk code and possibly an altitude assignment. If you try it again and can send me a screen shot of the conversation window and radio panel I may be able to see what's going on. Thanks, Dave
September 8, 201411 yr Author Here's the screenshot. I don't have any flight plan filed... Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
September 12, 201411 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the screen shot Gregg. I can't see the initial call you made, but it could be that made the controller think you were looking to land or something. The call you made that is fully visible looks right. I'll see if I can duplicate this. Dave
