Proper SDK installation?

Featured Replies

I have found some other topics in regards to my question but they've just made me more confused.

Long story short, I downloaded FSX Planner to edit airports. I realized I needed SDK so I googled how to install that properly.

I have FSX Deluxe with acceleration installed on my root drive C:FSX so I put in Deluxe disc 1 and installed SDK from that into the default location which was C:Programfiles(x86).

I keep getting an error when trying to compile my .bgl files that it can't find the correct folder but I have it directed towards the SDK folder that has the bglcomp.exe in it.

Are there additional SDK folders I need to install from other FSX discs, or is the issue somewhere else?

Follow the instructions found in this FS Developer Wiki article:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK

Thanks a lot for this...but I am once again stuck:

To install the SDK for FSX Acceleration Pack:

  1. Insert your Acceleration Pack DVD.
  2. Browse to the subfolder called SDK\SP1a\
  3. Install the SDK SP1A from there using fsx_sdk_sp1a.exe, (dated 26/09/2007, size 165,569KB).
  4. Browse to the folder called SDK\
  5. Install the Acceleration SP2/XPack SDK using sdk.msi, (dated 06/10/2007, size 216,929KB).

I have made it through step 4. Step 5 doesn't exist in any of my files????

Theres a ConfigSDK.exe in my SDK folder in program files dated 05/10/2007 but no such file as in step 5 on the acceleration disc or in my folder...

edit: disregard I found the file it wasn't named or dated correctly though.

Also my issue isn't solved, it is still saying the folder doesn't exist when I try to compile the file to the folder.

I suspect you may have followed the wrong set of instructions:

FSX Acceleration Pack OR FSX Gold Pack users[edit]

To install the SDK for FSX Acceleration Pack OR FSX Gold Pack:

  1. Install the RTM SDK from FSX Deluxe Edition disk 1, (see 3.1.1 FSX Deluxe RTM users instructions above).
  2. Insert your Acceleration Pack DVD.
  3. Browse to the subfolder called SDK\SP1a\
  4. Install the SDK SP1A from there using fsx_sdk_sp1a.exe, (dated 26/09/2007, size 165,569KB).
  5. Browse to the folder called SDK\
  6. Install the Acceleration SP2/XPack SDK using sdk.msi, (dated 06/10/2007, size 216,929KB).

Note that step 1 in this list is to install the basic RTM SDK from the FSX Deluxe Edition disk 1...

I did that...then continued with acceleration. I accidentally pasted the wrong instructions

could the issue be it's installed here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK

not here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK

The installer put it to the x86 folder by default and the instructions say otherwise

Okay, then continue on with the Wiki and read the problem solving suggestions.

Is it ok to install the SDK into an old FSX install, with many addons,Or do you have to install into a fresh FSX install?.

Thanks

You don't install the SDK into FSX anyway, it's a completely stand-alone installation, so no, it doesn't matter if your FSX is loaded down with addons or clean as a whistle.

arnobg, it is likely that the Program Files (x86) folder is causing your problem, it depends on where the program is trying to output the .bgl. As a test go into your Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK folder and copy bglcomp.exe and bglcomp.xsd to a temporary folder somewhere outside of Program Files (x86). A folder on your desltop will work. Then point your program to that folder instead of the one in Program Files (x86) and see if it will output a .bgl. If it does then you know Program Files (x86) is the problem, or UAC more specifically.

Thank you for all the help. After a few hours of going through the troubleshooting, I resolved the issue. For one it was the .dll file not having the entire root name of the location of the tools. After that FSX planner still did not work so I tried to install ADE instead and that was a success! Thank you for the help problem solved.
