September 13, 201411 yr I like it all. September 13, 201411 yr Author I like it all. Consider a 4GB card if using P3D or XP10 Thanks for the advice. 4GB 770s are quite hard to find though, and I've heard that the 770 isn't powerful enough to actually use all that VRAM. And I'll mostly be using FSX anyway. Mihkel Kiil
September 13, 201411 yr Look on ebay. You could find a 780 for sure at the same price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-ACX-Cooler-03G-P4-2784-RX-GeForce-GTX-780-3GB-384-Bit-GDDR5-PCI-Express-3-0-/291205141006?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item43cd2dd20e Newegg EVGA 780 $439 HiI'm building a new PC to run FSX, my i3 rig just isn't good enough.So what do you think of this?PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchantCPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.97 @ Amazon)CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($93.98 @ OutletPC)Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($188.98 @ SuperBiiz)Memory: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($85.84 @ Adorama)Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($109.99 @ Micro Center)Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased)Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($448.96 @ Amazon)Case: Corsair 760T White ATX Full Tower Case ($189.99 @ Amazon)Power Supply: Corsair CSM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($104.99 @ Amazon)Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($19.98 @ OutletPC)Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) (Purchased)Case Fan: Corsair CO-9050015-BLED 52.2 CFM 120mm Fan (Purchased)Other: Transcend SSD340 32GB (Purchased)Total: $1452.68Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2014-09-13 12:05 EDT-0400 David Graham Google, Network+, Cisco CSE, Cisco Unity Support Specialist, A+, CCNA
September 13, 201411 yr if you can squeeze it in i would suggest the 4790k for fsx as it comes with a turbo boost of 4.4ghz, i was able to get 4.7ghz at 1.240v stable max 65c,i can completely understand if your on a budget i am on disability and have to save months to upgrade anything, for what you are paying for the gtx 770, you can get a different brand gtx 780 for around the same price, 770 is just an overclocked 680,it's just best to be satisfied the first go around, everything else looks good but i promise you that your ssd will want to be upgraded again sometime in the future, just want to save yourself the disappointment with the cpu and gpu and the headache, but if it's all you can afford you have to do what you have to do, good luck hope to see photos of your build :-)

I can't afford the 4790K, but I will overclock my CPU anyway. i7s are just i5s with hyperthreading, and why pay $100 more for something that FSX can't even use. 780s seem to be more expensive, and I can fit my stuff onto a 256GB SSD. I have a separate 32GB drive for FSX anyway and if I need more space I'll just buy another one. Mihkel Kiil

September 13, 201411 yr only reason i suggested the 4790k is most people seem to be getting higher clock speeds out of them, not because of the hyperthread, hopefully you will be able to get a good 4690k that will give you a good overclock.
September 14, 201411 yr Not sure where you're from but there's a refurb 770 4GB on newegg for about 360 USD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487016&cm_re=gtx_770_4gb-_-14-487-016-_-Product | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

I already have that 1 TB drive, which is only for storage. I have managed to fit all my programs onto a 250GB drive until now, and a 32GB SSD is enough for my FSX installation. If I ever need more, I'll just run them in RAID0 and back the array up to the 1 TB drive. Mihkel Kiil
