September 19, 201411 yr Author Could you expand a bit on that? I had the assumption (probably wrong) that forests are on CPU and not GPU. Well, I might not be entirely correct - as the deeper knowledge about implementation details falls in Ben Supniks court - but usually CPU is only consumed to fill the forest polygons with new tree locations (but this does not need to happen at 25FPS .... usually its every now or then, as you progress over the landscape). From then on, its all on the GPU, and should use the modern way of "instancing" to draw massive amounts of identical objects. You might read in Bens blog over the last years, that he mentioned instancing quite a few times: http://developer.x-plane.com/?s=instancingTechnical details for example here: http://www.gamedev.net/page/resources/_/technical/opengl/opengl-instancing-demystified-r3226 Andras Fabian / Alpilotx Visit www.alpilotx.net, a site about X-plane scenery You can see some landscape and other photographs from me here: http://www.flickr.co...s/weathermaker/
September 19, 201411 yr Is there any small sample just for testing on my laptop ? Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
September 19, 201411 yr Author Well, there is a big sample called "HD Mesh Scenery v2" ... available since 10 months on my website. If you can run that, then v3 will only be a "little bit" more heavy and will probably run as well. But as so often, in X-Plane there are a few constellations which do not lead to a gradual degradation ... but instead can lead to drastic degradation. For example RAM (and similarly VRAM on your graphics hardware) is one such resource ... until you fit in, things might be OK ... but when you run out of one of them, than you can see an abrupt degradation. Thus - of course - it might be possible that v2 runs (maybe just barely!) on your laptop ... but then v3 tips it over the edge. Add to this, that because my HD Mesh Scenery is a "full base scenery" (containing all type of scenery elements), it is also very receptive to changes in your rendering settings (as almost every dial will affect some aspect of it) ... And no, there will be no extra small preview sample ... September 20, 201411 yr Moderator I have HD Mesh 2 for Canada and Europe and without HDR and Default objects I pull a nice 25-30 fps That's not so bad, and is around what I get with HD Mesh v2. The killer for me is also the default weather, but SkymaxxPro really helps here. Looking forward to this update a lot. I've done lots and lots of updates to rivers, streams and the coastline since v2 came out, so it will great to finally see rivers in the right place. Come on people, get updating/fixing OSM, we still have 3 weeks

Hey where can i get these rivers you have made ? Is it a W2xp thing ? I just took a flight at Alert Bay CYAL and its stunning. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

September 20, 201411 yr No, they'll be (I'm hoping), in HD Mesh v3 Lol ok. take a flight from CYAL and head west keep HDR and RTH ON it looks great. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
September 21, 201411 yr Author Until now, all water is only and exclusively part of the base mesh ... thus it can only be incorporated via a new mesh scenery. Thats where the HD Mesh Scenery v3 will bring improvements. I will pull latest OSM data around the beginning of October to be used as the basis of the HD Mesh Scenery v2 (as I described in the first post in this thread). So, all your changes in water done until then should be reflected (if everything goes as planned)!
