P3D AppData issue

Featured Replies

I was just reading Robs post on Ground shadows and noticed that my P3D cfg file is located in a different position to his.

Rob's config file is located in the Local folder of App data and mine is in the Roaming folder. Within that folder I also have a Prepar3D and a Prepar3Dv2 folder and that some of the contents of the Prepar3D folder appear to be the same as the Prepar3Dv2 folder.

in the Appdata/Local folder I have a Prepar3Dv2 folder that just contains a shader folder.

Is this normal or should they all be in the same Appdata location and the Prepar3D folder be deleted?

What is it supposed to be?

Cheers

It all sounds normal to me, %appdata% is C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roaming on my machine and that's where my .cfg, dll.xml, etc. are located. My shaders cache is in C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2. Rob may have just mis-typed.

When I first installed P3D2 from the v2.0 full installer I had a Prepar3D and a Prepar3D v2 folder too in %appdata%, I've since uninstalled and reinstalled two or three times and I see the Prepar3D folder is gone now, I may have deleted it when I installed one of the SPs, apparently it never grew back. I don't think it serves any purpose.

Thanks Jim...it be gone!

Doesn't seem to be any adverse affect. I'll wait a bit before "pulling the chain" on the recycle bin.

In C:/user/myname/Appdata/Roaming/Lockheed Martin  I have two folders containing the P3D cfg,  Prepar3D  and Prepar3D v2   One is for version 1.4 and the other for version 2.3, which is correct as I have both versions installed.

Of course, that would make sense if you have both versions installed, I only have v2 installed and never have had v1.4 installed, yet I still ended up with an appdata\Prepar3D folder for v1.4. I guess I assumed the same for cowpatz

cowpatz if you have v1.4 installed as well you should restore that folder from your recycle bin, lol.

No I'm like you Jim I have never had 1.4 installed. It all seems fine with it gone anyway.
