Not sure about India but in Ireland our Debit cards are Visa and MasterCard so we can use them anywhere you can use a Visa or MasterCard Credit Card. However i doubt putting debit card informaion into a website asking for credit card information will work. Looks like you need to set up a paypal account or maybe get a disposable Credit Card for buying addons?

Debit cards do work.

Many websites offer the choice of  using either a credit card or a debit card. In such cases, a credit incurs a surcharge  where a debit card doesn't card doesn't. Obvious you must have cash immediately to use a debit  where as you can delay payment on a credit card. A common example is buying tickets on budget airline.

They might not work in another country.

For example before Visa Debit cards became the norm in Ireland the only debit card you had was called a laser card.It was accepted in most shops and some on goverment websites. If you wanted to use your laser debit card on a world website like amazon, you couldn't because it wasn't recognized.

I have a funny feeling the OP is in a similar position

Visa is Visa;  it doesn't matter whether it's on a credit or debit card, if Visa is the transaction operator and the card is Visa, it should work.    (There is a difference in the charge that the vendor pays, when the client uses credit instead of debit cards, but to the client, there is no difference).

The OPs post however doesn't reveal what type of transaction operator (eg Visa, Mastercard) his State Bank of India card uses.

See this link for details. You may need to go through the "Verified by Visa" procedure in order to get your card to work for on-line purchases:
