Floater my Gold-Fish

Featured Replies

I have got a very important Question,  which will more then likely keep me awake tonight if I don't get an answer.

I too like the rest of you is obsessed with admiring Orbtx scenery from 40,000 feet in the air on a cloudy night

Here is my Question, Please keep in mind I'm Irish and Thick, with the concentration of a Gold-Fish  "sorry Floater"

I installed Global base last night, very happy with it,  and at the weekend ill be getting the 2010 Mesh, Vector and Europe.

Do I then put the Regions like Ireland and the UK on Top on the other packages "because I want to get the Uk Airports as well" OR are the Regions for people who don't want to get all the packages??

What I am saying is, is the purpose of the Regions to further enhance the Mesh/Global/Vector/Europe Scenery??

Or are the Regions a Complete Scenery with built in Vector/Mesh/Base and so on and so on.

So maybe I could just get the Regions because they are a complete package?   Because you can't get the airports without the Region scenery?

I do except that I lied and asked more then one Question,  but this answer would make me even more happier then the factory that makes happy people.

Thank you in advance

Hi,

Regions are another (different) approach than the Global Approach. They don't presuppose the Global packages, but you can install them in top of them (which I have done).

Within the Region they provide an even better representation than all the Global/Mesh packages together can provide. To name two examples, they include 3D models like churches, castles etc, and they have much more detailed and accurate landclass data than, e.g. OpenLC Europe.

Nearly all payware airports need the correspondiong Region to be installed. This does not apply to the more recent Freeware Airports specifically made for the Global packages.

Taste (and style of flying) may vary, but in my opinion full Regions are much better, at least for VFR flying, where they are available.

Finally: ORBX provies an excellent guide through the various elements of the ORBX world.

Hello Michael, I appreciate the response, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Thank you.

The regions are self contained scenery areas with extremely fine detail and include the mesh, vector, and textures that third party mesh, global, and vector provide outside the regional areas.  If you are going to fly ONLY in an Orbx region then you don't need additional mesh, global, or vector.

I fly primarily in the North American Orbx regions and only a little bit outside those regions.  So I do have global for terrain texture matching but not vector or third party mesh.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Thank you Noel for your reply.  Ill be certainly getting myself some Regions.   I was on the Orbtx site and can't get over how cheap some of the Airports are, 14 Euro! I know there small but wow very detailed,   And for PalmSprings only 22 Euro and covers ""1500 square kilometers of hand-crafted scenery"!!

So considering most Airports from Aerosoft are 27 Euro and up and don't seem to have the same quality!?

It kind of begs the Question, Is Orbtx just very cheap in price ?  Or is Aerosoft just very expensive?

Are my eyes telling me lies or does the Orbtx airports actually look that good

For my money Orbx sceneries are quite a bit better than Aerosoft.  I have Aerosoft Maldives and Tahiti and they are very nice indeed.  But they lack the fine detail like weeds and rocks and animations like people flow and nature flow found in Orbx products.  Even the secondary airports in the Orbx regions are well detailed, though not as well as the Orbx  payware airports for those sceneries.
