November 27, 201411 yr Just recently, on a filed and cleared IFR flight from KDEN to KLCLT at FL350, mach 0.80 and on course, I attempted to save the remainder of 2 hours of this flight. It saved except for the Radar Contact (.rcd) file. This is the first time this has occurred, as this flight properly saved prior to "cleared for takeoff". Is there a limit of saves that can occur, or is something else not set correctly. I have several other flights (for example: KCLT to EDDF) that I have saved at 1 hour segments of that particular 8 hour flight and others with no problems, John
November 28, 201411 yr Check the keyboard assignments in RC. I recommend ctrl-shift-; be used. We have heard of some complaints when just ";" is used. Send a note to jd as listed in the If you need help pinned topic explaining the difference in the flights and asking if there is a distance limitation. Did you get a request to name the file? if not search for .rcd looking at the date-time stamp. It should be going to your fs folder. Note: Later versions of P3D so not save an flt file generating an error when trying to load an rcd saved in a later version P3D flight.
November 28, 201411 yr Author Ronzie: As always, thanks for your speedy reply. 1. I changed to the recommended "CTRL+Shift+;" a long time ago, but was still using the FSX/Flight/Save click with no problems, so I actually used the "recommended" after your post, with no joy. It still only saves the "FLT, FSSAVE, and WX" files, where normally it saved all four files "FLT,FSSAVE, rcd, and WX". 2. I do get an FSX request to name the file and do so; I do not use P3D; and there can't be a distance problem, as I have saved flights all the way to Europe before. 3, The normal save procedure that I have been using is to PAUSE the flight (so that it returns to that state on restart to enable checking that engines are still running and all other settings are correct). Then using the FSX/Flight/Save click and naming the file. I have numerous prior files saved in this manner for extended flights such as KCLT-EDDF (an 8 hour flight saved every hour across the ocean) so that I can set up FSX and RC to allow just takeoff from KCLT to altitude and recover it close to EDDF just prior to ATC descent instructions (skipping the boring in-between). This time, I was able to save the KDEN-KCLT flight at "Pre-takeoff flight check" and again at "KDEN-KCLT_OnCourse_FL350_M0.80_ETE_2hrs" and both times all four files, including rcd, are present in My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files. However, only the three files, excluding rcd, are saved thereafter. Since I have sat in the right seat on this exact same flight, believe me these last 2 hours of keeping an eye on the flight instruments, while on auto, and trying to stay awake, while the left seat is napping, are the most boring on the flight deck, even with coffee served by a compassionate SFA. There has to be an easy answer, but I will try and get my into to jd, but I really hate to bother him during his "happy" time. John
November 28, 201411 yr When you contact jd he might need a debug log. If you do this try a short 300 mile flight or so to keep a full phase flight with a relative short debug log. If it asks for a file name try a different name in case there is a write-over conflict. Also, a "." in a file name section is not legal so use the _ instead. The "." is reserved for an extension in some app programming languages. I'd also try a shorter length file name down to 32 characters (exclusive of the extension). Just some thoughts. Does any of this prompt any routine changes you have made? Also, what is FSSAVE, unless it is something new with fsuipc for another application.
November 29, 201411 yr Author Ron: Gotcha on your debug log suggestion. I contacted Doug by email, as JD says he can fix anything, and he had some suggestions. Still no joy. As to reducing the file name, I tried using just the numeral 2 as a file name with a resulting three file save, but no RCD file, so no joy. As to changes, I reinstalled RC and got a key from JD's auto key issuer. As to FSSAVE, that is the FSX (.exe) save file it puts into Documents\Flight Simulator X Files along with .PLN (Plan), .FLT (Flight), .WX (Weather), and supposed to be .RCD (RC Save) when you save in FSX. Apparently I am no longer getting an RCD file upon saving, I am going to attempt another RC reinstall before bothering JD. John
November 29, 201411 yr Be sure fsuipc4 is current from: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/ Be sure RC is set up for run as admin each at the user level and program level for Win 7 and up. (In the shortcut to RC set the first poperty window to run as admin, then in advanced set the second one, OK to close the second window, Apply in the first window, then OK to exit. Finally be sure the flt-wxr path is set correctly in RC. In this explorer type path setting, do not cancel or OK it without selecting the path each time, even if it is the same. I recommend copying to a backup folder not under FS the files in the rcv4x folder keyboard.dat and rcv3.dat to avoid a reinstall if these files get corrupted.
December 1, 201411 yr Author Ron's Quote: :...be sure the (sic) flt-wxr path is set correctly in RC. In this explorer type path setting , do not cancel or OK it without selecting the path each time, even if it the same." Leave it to Ron to have the answers <smile> Geeesh and JD in his post says that Doug can fix everything! Ron: Before I got to read your post, I received an email from JD suggesting that I look at the .FLT/WX Path setting, which I did. I don't know how this non-saving of ".rcd" files started, but in my attempt to fix the problem, I did a reinstall of RC and, of course, forgot to check the .FLT/WX Path setting. However, before I re-clicked on the button, I check and it was listing the correct location of where to save the ".rcd file": "My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files". Just to be sure, however, I clicked on the button and directed it to that location again, not having seen your post Ron. Lesson learned: Next time, even if it is the same do it again! I started the flight with the last ".rcd" saved file and flew for a couple of minutes and saved. Lo and Behold, as the saying goes, it saved the ".rcd" file in the correct location. I continued the flight to the "Initial Descend Request" location and it saved that ".rcd" file and the remaining saves before landing. Now I can skip the intervening boring 2 hours from "On Course, at Altitude" to "Initial Approach Clearance." You all are awesome! John
