I have noticed now that not always but usually I will be in FSX and everything is fine.  If I click on a different window or minimize the screen when I come back to FSX I have a black screen but can still hear ATC etc.  There is no real number of how many times I change a window for it to occur.  It just occurs randomly but then I have to close down and restart FSX.  Anybody have any suggestions?

When this happens just use Alt/Enter and most times FSX will continue. Now use Alt/Enter again to go back to Windowed Mode.

I have been doing that as well. I I was taxiing in windowed mode and decided to use the keyboard shortcut to go into full screen and it came back black screen with sound. I have the configuration file default so I'm not tweaking anything. Very frustrating. I feel like I've had to do more uninstalling all my fsx and payware stuff and reinstalling than actually flying. The random CT D'S. If it wasn't for the money I have invested in payware aircraft and scenery I probably wouldn't be flying FSX.
