November 29, 201411 yr Hi folks, For whatever reason joystick and other game devices disppear from the Controls list within P3D. You only get this ...'mouse yoke" thingy and that's a hassle because some settings can't be done with FSUIPC but not all of them. Despite P3D team claims it's a Win 8.1 issue with USB and power management (which isn't exact) there is a workaround. Launch the simulator. Select the flight called "The Deep". Because it has no joysticks assignation you'll get all your devices listed. Make your changes and close P3D. That's it. Next time you'll launch P3D your changes will be saved. Warning! You have to select the Deep as your first flight after launching the sim. That works for me 100%, I hope it will help others as well. November 30, 201411 yr That works for me 100%, I hope it will help others as well. Thanks for this workaround David. I've been plagued by this myself and would love to see it resolved. I'll give your solution a try, fingers crossed. cheers,
December 1, 201411 yr Author You are welcome Michel. If it works on other computers it will definitely burry away the Windows USB power management theory. Actually I am 100% convinced that this issue comes from P3D coding and not from Windows. December 1, 201411 yr Assuming it is the same problem, it might be worth noting that the joystick drop issue also affects FSX when running on Windows 8 or 8.1, particularly when a user interfaces with the simulator's menus and/or task switches frequently. The de-facto solution being implemented by most users is to bypass FSX or P3D and use the paid version of FSUIPC to handle all joystick axis mapping. When running on FSUIPC, the traditional (and apparently flawed) way the two sims communicate with the controllers is bypassed, and FSUIPC acts as an intermediary. Since FSUIPC is not plagued by the same issue of losing connection, the controllers stay connected. (*Plus, you get to use some of the benefits of FSUIPC as a controller interface, such as better filtering and calibration, per-aircraft settings, and a host of others) Of course, you could be experiencing a completely different type of issue, so your milage may vary. -Greg
December 1, 201411 yr Author Hi Greg, Thanks for your answer. I use FSUIPC paying version for years and know it perfectly ;-) But there are few settings I prefere doing directly in the simulator options rather than via FSUIPC. My point is that there is a specific issue with P3D and joysticks on some computers that has nothing to do with the way Windosw 8 or 8.1 deals with power management. If I launch P3D, select whatever flight except "The Deep" and go directly to the options without any other input on the sim, I will only find the mouse as single connected device. If I do the same and choose this specific flight I'll get all my 4 devices listed. Very simple. - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.
December 1, 201411 yr A completely different issue indeed! ...and a very strange one at that. I'm at a loss, unfortunately. The only thing I can think of is backing up and deleting all saved flights so it defaults back to the "factory" default startup flight... on the hopes that something in the current default flight is screwed up. (shrug) ...Of course, that doesn't entertain your theory on it being power management related, either. Tough one. Good luck! -Greg
