May 9, 200521 yr (Note: I did search but didn't see anything comparable with my CTDs). Since I've upgraded to WinXP-Home I've experienced random CTDs that are really strange. They're fairly random and only FS9.1 crashes (read: goes away, gone, not there). Only Radar Contact, ActiveSky2004.5, and AISeperation remain. There's no warning, no "Send an Error Report to MS", no anything. This happened twice to me yesterday. First, on my way from CLE to BOS in a PMDG 737-800 it happened after I reached a cruise altitude of 33,000 ft somewhere over western New York State. I reflew the same flight and nothing strange happened. On my return, I had a CTD while on downwind at KCLE. This hasn't happened for about a month but before then, I had about 4 or 5 such occurrances -- always right after I reached cruise altitude. I've been meticulous in correcting any errors in new AFCADs. I always do an error check and correct them (You would be amazed at how many AFCADs available both here on AVSIM as well as ProjectAI have errors) so I don't think that's the problem. I have not added any new scenery lately except reloading Shez's CLE2005 (including a complete redo of his CLE2003 and CLE2004u first). But I checked that out.Anyone have similar CTDs? Anyone have any ideas as to why? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
May 9, 200521 yr Yes I ve got weird ones to like that.To be honest I just cant be bothered anymore, I think somewhere Some how, this is an undeniable bug, that maybe only happens under certain conditions hence not everybody getting them.I cant start FS atnearly any airport in the UK otherwise it hangs at either 9/10/11/12 %. Now I removed all scenery in the UK and france to make sure and even installed a vanilla FS2004 and it happen again.Yet If I start in say france and fly to the uk No problems, If I start in france and then use GOTo airport I can then choose any UK airport??????Some say its an AFCAD/Scenery thing which I suspect is right, however I still beleive that there is a CTD Bug in the FS2004 workings.Jason
May 11, 200521 yr I have had the same problems, but in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. I have tried different aircraft and different flight profiles and get the same results. It seems to happen when one of the .bgl files is loaded into scenery. I removed an AFCAD for KDFW (thinking this was the problem) and still got the CTD. It looks like there could be a problem with the "AP922200.bgl" file for FS9.
May 11, 200521 yr Same for me....just lately for absolutely no reason I'm flying along and the sim crashes to desktop. I just click the icon in the lower bar and I'm back in the aircraft! Hit the P to unpause and everything is normal. Really strange....happens sometimes 2 or 3 times and hour or sometimes not at all or sometines even 2 times a minute! Driving me mad....Is there a possibility of a virus? Seems strange that a few of us are noticing this.....there hasn't been a real CTD thread for a while and where there has been, people usually get a message at the CTD.FKD
May 17, 200521 yr I have recently started experiencing restarts that,,: the mouse click,, clicks several times and the computer reatarts. This occurs after I slect a menue item or a panel selection with the mouse or the enter key. No Random CTD's or restarts, only after a menue/item selection. I noticed it happens only after I install addon scenery. When I go into the scenery.cfg and delete some of the entries, all is good again. Allmost as if there is a limit to the number of addons the program can handle.Anyone have anything on this?
May 17, 200521 yr I am very new to MSFS2004 (or any other sim for that matter). The experiences I have had are not a "crash to desktop", rather a complete re-boot.After loading some scenery add-ons last weekend (I foolishly installed two apps without starting FS between the two), I had 2 re-boots. Yesterday, after landing I paused on the runway to review the approach and landing. Had a complete re-boot when I hit the "P" key to resume.I have tried FSAutoStart but it fails in an attempt to shut down certain services. It seems that when I manually shut down my anti-virus, fire wall and my Diskeeper app (think the latter is the culprit) I don't have any problems. Most recently I have been doing a manual re-boot after flying. The last couple of times I have had no problem... but, the problems do seem to be random.
May 17, 200521 yr Hii was having similar problems ..unexplained crashes.sometimes after 10mins..sometimes after 1hr...then someone suggested changing the clockspeed of my 400ddr memory to 333hz...No more crashes..it seems my Ballistic 400ddr memory doesn't like the athlon 64 3500 i use..people have suggested only using samsung based memory for athlons.. try it ..it worked for me steve
May 17, 200521 yr KFD or FKD(?) I do not think that yours is a crash to desktop because what you are explaining is that FS9 in minimizing and not crashing. Since you can get right back into the cockpit it is not a crash. It sounds to me like you have another program that is stealing the "attention" of your computer while you are running FS9. It could be an anti-virus program, or something similar or many of the programs that come with your computer or printer, or worse of all it could be a virus or spyware if some sort. You are going to have to find out what is causing your program to minimize like this, start by closing any anti-virus software you might have and then try to fly. Also make sure your anti-virus is up to date and run a scan of your computer just to make sure, also use Spybot Search and Destroy or some other anti-spyware program to make sure spyware is not the issue. If you need help in trying to identify what is causing your problem I am here to help you, just ask for the help and it will be given, we can stop your sim from minimizing like that, we just have to find the culprit. There are many programs that can cause the behaviour that you are seeing, it could be an anti-virus program that is trying to update itself, or scan your hard drive. It could also be any one of millions of programs that also update themsleves on the internet, usually this does not cause the program you are in to minimize but if the software is not written well this could happen. If you need help you can post here or email me and I can walk you through what you have to do.Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
May 17, 200521 yr I had the dreaded CTD last night, I was flying along and bam nothing but desktop. I was flying the Fox Fire add-on plane at the time which is one that I have never had a problem with before. It seems that the only time I have ever gotten this type of CTD is when I am using an add-on aircraft. I have never had a problem with the default aircraft or any of the PMDG aircraft. I was flying at night, I took off from KSEA and headed directly west at about Mach 1.75 at an altitude of 40,000 feet, I had been flying for about 20 minutes before the crash. Given the time flying there should have been nothing but ocean all around me so scenery or AFCADS should not be an issue. I have double and triple checked my AFCADS and I have no duplicate or problem ones. I just did a complete re-install of FS9 about a month ago and have not added many add-ons into the sim yet, most of them being scenery and mesh for Colorado and the southwest. I do have the full compliment of PAI packages installed with several Aardvark planes replacing the PAI aircraft. I have gotten this CTD several times since reinstalling FS9 and I have changed out my drivers for sound, video, etc. to no avail, I doubt that was the problem to begin with since I really never had this issue in my previous installation. Well there is some more information in hopes that someone can figure this out although sadly I doubt it. Take care,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
May 18, 200521 yr I downloaded and installed Flight Sim Manager. I had a mismatch in my scenery and it corrected it. Haven't had any problems since then. (Knock on wood). Great little program. Get it if you don't already have it.Steve
May 24, 200521 yr Can you be a little more specific about the Flight Sim Manager program? Did a quick search here on AVSIM and could not find. Al
May 24, 200521 yr Very recently started getting 'Total Program Crashes' with indication that the program had an error and was ending. Messages are being sent to Microsoft. Scenery Design Co-worker in Michigan noticed it first. We thought is was scenery specific but later testing proves this is not the case. Nothing new has been added except an aircraft or two. No scenery changes.... Strongly suspect one of the Microsoft XP UPDATES to be the cause because nothing else has changed. All was working fine before the middle of May.... Last Weekend....Also getting a disturbing message after the program crashes.... I have 1.5 GB of RAM and according to Cacheman, there is 999 MB of RAM available but M$ says that there is not enough memory to reload FS-9.... How much memory do they want? This too is new since the middle of May.Al FR-153
May 24, 200521 yr I highly recommend that everyone use ScanAFD and make sure that no duplicate AFCADs are present in odd scenery folders on your hard drive. The latest version has the ability to search all active scenery areas in FS. A duplicated AFCAD can cause a CTD even if you're flying hundreds of miles away! More troubling - AFCADs with duplicate facility names may also cause CTD, and there's no way of searching for these except to read the entire list of airports in FS9. By name I mean, for ficticious example - Lebanon, MUNI. Even though there might be two or more lebanon MUNI's in the real world, one needs to be named Lebanon Municiple, the other Lebanon MUNI, etc. These types of errors may be much more common than one thinks once you start adding a lot of AI traffic, particularly non-airborn traffic!Hope this helps someone!Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
May 24, 200521 yr I had one out of the blue from Austin to Mexico City. I was at 32,000 and just went over San Antonio. The thing just locked up making a screeching noise. My system and FS have been working flawless and haven't made any changes. After I went to reboot my sytem wouldn't even post. I reset the bios and then it is fine again. No virus, Trojan or anything. I guess I'll avoid San Antonio for a while. :)Edit: I locked up while compiling weather with Active sky at this location.
