URGENT - Mail from [email protected]

Featured Replies

I am at work and will post a quick note here... There is a worm on the loose that purports to be from [email protected]. The content of the email message sent has a zip file. The email reads:"To safeguard your email account from possible termination, please see the attached file."DO NOT OPEN THE ZIP FILE ATTACHED.[/b}Most people will understand this is NOT sent from AVSIM but from the PC of someone who is not running a virus/worm checker. But, we invariably get email from folks accusing us of sending virus out. Please pass the word.

Thanks Ed. It may have only been sent to me by one of my many "fans". :-lol But, some how, I doubt that it was that specific.

I confirm that as I got a copy. It was trapped so no problems there.bones

Autoreplication and fake "from" fields are typical worm mechanism and people should be aware of this. General rule is: do not ever open attachements it you are uncertain the source of the e-mail. W32.Sober.O@mm!enc and W32.Sober.O@mm worms have generataed 75% of the total glabal Internet traffic between 3-6 May (!). So beware of unknown e-mails and let your wisdom beats your curiousity.regs,Piotr

You would be surprised at what avsim is accused of ;-)

Thanks for the heads-up Tom....it's amazing what people will try; my main email account is hit by aprox 100 fake emails from 'Postmaster@',any bank you could think of, 'message undeliverable' notifications (even though I haven't been sending anything!), crazy names, etc, and all of them have some kind of link to click, or file to open! I either use a superb little freebie called Mailwasher to weed them out(it stops the mail on the ISP server), or let Outlook 2003 stick anything not from a few trusted email addresses into the Junk Mail folder. It's reached a point where I almost dread opening Outlook, having to wade through all the crap to find the good stuff! Cheers !
