I have three profiles setup for IFR normal, IFR light and VFR (heavy scenery).   I would like to be able to setup my flight from Launcher but I seem to have problems figure out how.  I would like to be able to pick the scenery to load (preferably from a group of scenery based on region ---- UK, Europe, Canada, USA, etc.), then pick my Aircraft, Livery and starting location at the airport.  Is this possible and if so how ?  thanks.

You need to create 3 separate scenery.cfg files:

1. Make sure that all installed sceneries are currently active in your scenery.cfg file
2. go the profiles window
3. Click on 'New' on the ribbon and name the new profile 'Original' (this to make sure that you can easily go back to a profile with all sceneries active)
4. Select the first profile, lets say the IFR profile
5. click on 'Edit scenery.cfg' on the ribbon
6. deactivate all sceneries you don't need for the IFR profile, click on 'Save as' on the toolbar,  choose a suitable name for the new scenery.cfg file e.g. scenery_IFR.cfg and click on 'Save'. The IFR profile now points to the new scenery_IFR.cfg file
7. Select the IFR Light profile  and repeat steps 5. and 6.
8. Select the VFR profile and repeat steps 5. and 6.

Before you start a flight, first exit the simulator (otherwise the simulator does not pick up the new scenery.cfg file), select an appropriate profile, select a flight, configure the flight (start location, aircraft, time etc.) and click on Fly Now. When you click on Fly Now, SLX first makes a backup copy of the current scenery.cfg file (only if the contents of the new scenery.cfg file differ from the current scenery.cfg file and a backup file does not exist yet) , overwrites the current scenery.cfg file with the scenery.cfg file that belongs to the active profile and then starts the simulator. There's no need to exit the simulator when you select a different flight for the same profile.

 

When you install a new scenery, SLX will detect that on startup and offers you the possibility to update the scenery.cfg files of all profiles with the new scenery layer(s).

I tried this out last night but did not get very far along because some of the terminology you used did not match exactly the menu items in the program.  I get the feeling this is mostly user error on my part so please forgive me!  Is there any chance you can upload a few screenshots to make this clear.  thanks!

I can make lots of screenshots, but it would help if you could first tell me at what point the terminology I used differs from the menu items (ribbon buttons) in the program, because I cannot find a possible mistake in the steps I described.

Select the first profile, lets say the IFR profile  - OK I can do this but I am selecting from the Startscreen.

Yeah I figured that out    .  I finally also found the Profile windows so I will play around and see if I can get it to work.  I am guessing it will be a lot easier now that I am using the right program.  LOL.

I am really impressed with your program and your skill level to make it, however, for me it is really not what I am looking for mostly due to the load time, complexity and extra features I don't need.  It is much easier for me to set a profile in a program like SimStarter.....I rarely change the profile....then select the scenery in Scenery Config Editor and then start FSX or start Alacrity to shut down services etc.  I would love to see a simple program that ties all together.  Anyway, thanks for your help on getting me to at least evaluate SimLauncherX.

I suspect there is a great deal of modularity to your program, therefore, may I suggest that you have a SimLauncherX config setup that allows us to opt in or out of features as we wish/learn?

I don't think the feature content has a major influence on the load times. Please send me your [Documents]\SimLauncherX\SimLauncherX.log file, so I can look at what is causing the long load times on your machine.

The initial phase of the startup procedure (before SLX starts loading the flights) takes 2 minutes and 12 seconds on your machine, where it takes just 18 seconds on my machine and your CPU is significantly faster than my CPU (i7-950). Please check the health of your drives and make sure you have excluded the SLX installation folder and the [Documents]\SimLauncherX folder in your virus scanner

2. You have an enormous amount of flights and flight plans in the same folder (many of them with errors btw). Please consider organizing flights and flight plans in multiple folders and create multiple profiles that each point to one these folders.

3. Please upgrade to the latest version: 2.0.5625.17531

I will;

1. Look into the "drive", which is an an almost new SSD, Drive I:, which IS DEDICATED to Prepared3d v2.5, and contains virtually ALL but a few flight files.

...BUT..does contain data moved FROM Non-SSDs.

2. Research the idea of creating separate profiles for flights and flight plans...

3. Of course I saw all the errors, but many of those flights are historical and go back over 12 years, and possibly contain pre-FS2004 data ...could the data structure of flights and flight plans have changed from earlier versions of Fsx? I know the format for pilot records has. and;

4. I wanted to confirm that they were in fact errors and not miss-reads by SimlauncherX.

Note: unloaded P3d, reloaded to see if it would run with above flight loaded and no AC loaded //loaded and RAN in Prepar3D version: 2.5.12945.0 Note ac could not be initialized..couldn't find the Archer so loaded 767 (accidentally chosen as default flight reset, and chose different default scenario then loaded the above flight Archer sunset TO from Hazard.FLT..loaded the F35....but it ran...

 

SLX could not load the error files, but P3d & P3d can and run them as well..yes with reported error....but none of the above files are corrupted, merely called for different settings which P3d could not find, and thus compensated for them. 

 

Nonetheless, I understand that I have over 400 flights and over 500 .wx files which seems to indicate that there are over 100 orphaned .wx files...and that needs to be cleaned up...but I wonder if even 500 flights is really excessive.....guys?....how many flights have you generated over 10 years?

....and yes, Maarten, I understand that MOM said, "Everything in its place"...so I shall work on the above.

 

just wanted to point out that even though I have copied files over to each new iteration of FS/FSX/P3d, they do not appear to be corrupted, rather are missing parameters called for in the Flight file...but they do load and run.
