hi and low altitude airways - what radials define them?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,What are the ways I can determine what radials define the low and high altitude airways? Is my only recourse hi and low altitude charts or is there a program that can tell me this. I really don't want to spend $60 on low altitude charts for the US...all the program I've seen thus far only give you fixes along the airway in latitude and longitude. Not very helpful without INS or GPS ;-).Thanks,

For the UK:You will need to create an account at www.ais.org.uk. Once you have done that http://www.ais.org.uk/aes/pubs/aip/html/aipenr.htm or follow the "AIP", "Enroute" menus when logged in. Then look for ENR 3 or ATS Routes.Other countries have the same information under different systems. However, for Europe, the Eurocontrol site should have a compendium for all countries (don't ask where, I haven't needed to find out yet!).

Hi,You can download High & Low charts for free here, but I'm sure sure if they are available for the US:Caribbean/South America Enroute Charts https://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/t...cur&country=csaEurope/North Africa/Middle East Enroute Chartshttps://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/t...r&country=enameOtherhttps://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/index.cfmFAA VFR Sectionalshttp://aviationtoolbox.org/raw_data/FAA_sectionals/current

I don't think they are generally defined by radials but by waypoints. However the UK AIP does give the magnetic track and distance between the waypoints.

And if you want all the FAA VFR Sectionals (and TAC charts) in an easier package for flight simulators, you can get them using bittorrent:http://zovirl.com/2005/maps/sectionals/

The MSFS flight log will give you the proper courses for the airway segments of your flightplan.

I>really don't want to spend $60 on low altitude charts for the>US...>Craig, For the USA : High altitude routes (or Jet routes) are those airways identified by "J" and a number, as opposed to the usual "V" (victor airways) for the low-altitude routes. "J" routes are depicted on the "IFR Enroute HIGH ALTITUDE" charts, not anywhere else I know (except on SIDs where they show parts of them sometimes, because they transition to J routes most of the time). These "IFR Enroute High Altitude" charts are available at the nearest pilot shop for 8 bucks or so. (Where did you get the $60 from ?????)If you talk to the shop's clerk and tell him you don't need the current version, he'll tell you when you can stop by to collect the old cycle stuff for FREE. They trow away the old cycle approach plates, IFR Enroute charts (both high and low altitude), sectionals, all of this stuff. You just need to know when they trow it away, and you can stop by and collect all the stuff you will ever need to "Flight Sim" in the USA.I don't think you could possibly "download" an "IFR Enroute High Altitude" chart because they are pretty big charts and YOU NEED THEM WHILE FLYING. Some people just don't seem to have a clue... they always want to "download" stuff... I have paper approach plates (like the airlines use) and even when I don't, I download and then always PRINT them before flying so I can referr to them while doing other chores.Same thing for enroute charts. I have them handy and open in the proper page so I can see my current route segment.Enough said... Cheers.Arnold
