May 24, 200521 yr Hi,I have just built a new computer with the following spec;A64 3700+ASUS K8Ne-deluxeAntec Truepower 550 PSU2Gb crucial memory2 x Seagate 120Gb SATA HDDsATI X800XT PROLG DVD-RWLG CD-RWWindows XP Pro SP2Mcafee Security Suite 2005I have installed FS9 and before installing the patch, have run FS to make sure no problems. However, when trying to connect to multiplayer, FS freezes and the only way out is CRTL-ATL-DEL.When task manager opened, I noticed on the performance page the page file usage was 1.7Gb and climbing. Returning to the processes page, I noticed it was an execution, file name 'dpnsvr.exe'.I've never seen this before, and have never had this problem since day one of running FS9. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know why this file is causing the problem it is.Would be very grateful for any help..Mataus Thanks Mat -|- Win 11 Pro, 14900K, Asus Strix Z790, 64Gb Corsair Vengeance, MSI 5090 - Hardware: MFG, Thrustmaster, Logitch, Honeycomb, Virpil, WinWing & Tobii. May 24, 200521 yr Author HiI have searched various forums and search engines for an answer, but only a few are multiplayer related and none of those were for flightsim. I read on one of them that there maybe ports not opened in XP for multiplayer games to connect to the internet. I've never had this problem before and not sure if it would solve an FS problem.Does anyone know what ports should be open, and how to find if they are/or to add them?I will try reinstalling DirectX, but if that don't work, then I think its a reformat and reinstall, and if that dont fix it, then its a straight out departure through my window :(ThanksMataus Thanks Mat -|- Win 11 Pro, 14900K, Asus Strix Z790, 64Gb Corsair Vengeance, MSI 5090 - Hardware: MFG, Thrustmaster, Logitch, Honeycomb, Virpil, WinWing & Tobii. May 27, 200521 yr I have the same problem. Click on multi-player and it basically freezes and starts eating all memory. I have the same OS and Mcaffe Security. Let me know if you have any luck. I was thinking of reinstalling FS but will try to renstall Directx first?
May 27, 200521 yr Running late so a quick update. I have my hard drive partitioned and found out that there was not enough room for the page file on drive C so I took my largest partition and put the page file there. Now multiplayer takes almost 2 gig of memory but it wont freeze. This may not be the solution but it will allow FS to run so I can see if there are other problems.
May 28, 200521 yr Have it narrowed down to a directplay problem. You can duplicate the symptoms by running DXdiag/network/test directplay/tcp-ip .Have tried everything except downloading directx from micrsoft and reinstalling it. Mine is from dell that came with computer and am on dial up right now. Wondering if microsoft might have slipped a fix in the last year.
May 28, 200521 yr Author HiI too thought the problem may be where my page file is located, so i have a seperate partition near the start of the drive formatted in FAT32. Although a slight improvement, it did not solve the problem. After some technical advice from mcafee and some general messing around, i found this problem to be due to the 'Privacy Service' that comes with McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005 V7.0. I tried disabling various parts of the secuirty suite, but no change. Only by uninstalling the privacy service does the multiplayer work.Thankfully this is not a major part of the firewall or anti-virus, so no major loss, but at least multiplayer now works. So if any of you have the same problem, try the above as it worked for me.Mataus Thanks Mat -|- Win 11 Pro, 14900K, Asus Strix Z790, 64Gb Corsair Vengeance, MSI 5090 - Hardware: MFG, Thrustmaster, Logitch, Honeycomb, Virpil, WinWing & Tobii. May 30, 200521 yr Think that was it. I was reinstalling WinXP service pack2 to try to fix directx and uninstalled Privacy service and its working now. The IVAO forums mentioned Privacy Service but I didn't see anything about uninstalling it. Lost the whole weekend to fly online but learned more about DirectX and Flightsim than I wanted to.
