Eh? Flight Environment 2004 - Am I doing it right?

Featured Replies

I installed FE 2004 last nite and it went in well. All screens are there and all things seem to work in terms of clicking around. But when I click the Randomizer and Fly Now, it just takes me to my usual create a flight screen in FS9 where I click and I'm at KSEA in the default Cessna under the "Fair Weather" weather theme. I don't see anything randomized. Beyond this, if I click around and do SAVE & INSTALL with other weather choices inside FE 2004, I don't see anything taking effect in FS9. My default FS9 weather is the FAIR WEATHER theme. Is this interfering with things? What am I doing wrong or what am I not doing right ?Appreciate advice, thanks!JS

I don't think you're understanding what Flight Environment does - it randomizes the cloud sets, water look, sky colors etc, NOT the actual weather situation you'll be seeing in the game. You still use weather themes or real world weather just as you did before getting FE. The look of the weather is what gets changed, not the weather itself...

Tabs is correct,FE changes the files used to make up the LOOK of the weather, it doesnt do anything to make the actual weather. From what your saying, everything seems to be working correctly. FE makes the weather LOOK better, it doesnt make the weather.

>My default FS9 weather is the FAIR WEATHER theme. If you use FAIR weather this is what you are going to get - FAIR weather. But FE will change cloud textures/sky/water if this is what you have loaded. If you want to see drastically different weather, more clouds, etc. FE doesn't control this - it is controlled by FS9 or something like ActiveSky, FSMeteo, etc. Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpg

Interesting how this question keeps coming up. I went back to Flight1's FE page to see if something is there that is confusing. I suppose the brief mention of ActiveSky and FSMeteo might contribute but it all seems clear to me. It's just a curious thing. Glad forums like this can help give clarity.Randall

I think it's because we bill FE as a total weather enviroment and this is confusing people, they assume we mean a weather maker is included...thats my guess anyway

Just one quick thing to add; the Fair Weather theme will make the water greener and also the clouds are small and won't look that different than defauts. Try some other themes like Moderate Cold front available at Weather-Maker or similar themes.Best though, create your own layers, 3 or more and cirrus, cumulus stratus etc to really see the effects, or even real weather downloaded.Pete

i have a question on if i'm using FE right as well..my smoothness has just gone down the tubes when any type of cumulous clouds appear..i am using the random button..is there something im missing???

Thanks everybody for your replies. I obviously understood neither what FE2004 was/is nor how to operate it (not bad, eh?) ! Thanks for the clarification and guidance.JS

>cumulous clouds appear..i am using the random button..is there>something im missing???Yeah. Faster PC :-lolOK, joke aside. Is it ONLY when using random button, or just from using any clouds from FE?

P.S. I did just assume that FE2004 would create weather in the sim and drop you in there without any further action, so to speak. Especially with the auto randomizer. Don't know why I concluded this, just assumed it from the pix and descriptions at Flight1 software.JS
