May 29, 200521 yr While visiting Lake Geneva this week I was struck by the multitude of aircraft leaving their contrails overhead. This is a busy flying area and consequently it wasn't suprising to see up to six aircraft contrails overhead. However using "Traffic 2004" and the FS9 Traffic set at maximum it's seldom that I encounter anything like the number of contrails I saw in real life.Is there a way to increase high level flights with their respective contrails in FS9?Cliff
May 30, 200521 yr I think.. there is a freeware here at AVSIM that does contrail.BTW.. Contrails don't appear all the time... the conditions have to be right for it, in terms of temperature and humidity at the altitidue they fly.Infact, during WWII, they figured this out and passed it on to the pilots flying to avoid this condition so they won't leave contrails. The day you saw it was probably a perfect day for it.;) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 30, 200521 yr And Cliff, when the conditions are right contrails can persist for a long. I've seen as many as two dozen criss-crossing the skies here, and it took a couple of hours for them to appear. So it would be a tricky business to duplicate the right conditions, then you'd have to hang around for a while for the AI to create them.Jon My blog
May 31, 200521 yr Manny you're probably right; that I'd hit just the right day for those conditions to have coincided. It's interesting what you say about how WW11 pilots wre briefed about how to avoid preducing contrails. Thanks for your remarks.Cliff
May 31, 200521 yr Thx Ken. I had been kind of wondering about this myself, and this answers everything. And resolves it. :-)billg
