Assigned Runway

Featured Replies

this things been annoying me for ages, when i request a full stop landing from the tower, they ALWAYS seem to give me the non ILS runway. Ive tried asking them from different positions but that doesnt change it either, and i feel such an idiot just ignoring them and choosing a runway myself, i guess in real life thatd be the end of my career if i did that. They even happen to pick the one runway that doesnt have ILS, so frustrating..Is there something i could download which changes things?

Hi,Usually it is based on the winds. Are you using real time weather? That may be one thing to try!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

naa theres no winds so i dont think thats it, is their a way i can specifically request the ILS runway?

>naa theres no winds so i dont think thats it, is their a way i can specifically request the ILS runway? No way that I know of to specifically request the ILS runway but you can try adding some wind and aligning it with the runway that you wish to use. R-

Sometimes you have to do it in two steps. A good example would be landing at runway 19R at John Wayne (KSNA).The initial assignment for me was 19L. However, I wanted 19R (partly because of the ILS and partly because there is no way, I, personally, can stop a heavy on 19L (without maximum auto braking and holding down the period key until the keyboard breaks :)). I know most of you can, but I can't :).Anyway, I had to ask for ILS 19R APPROACH. ATC said, fair enough, you can get 19R with a sidestep to 19L. I said NO WAY. So I asked for RUNWAY 19R. ATC gave it to me that time.Of course, this may or may not work for ALL Airports. It depends on how the AFCAD for the airport is set up.

I think it's the end of your career if you say "No Way" as well, LOL but that's funny! I get annoyed with this feature also. I have no time for "sidesteps" or "circles to land".

there should be an option such as choose a different runway when the ATC first tells you what runway you are assigned to. do that, request the one you want, then choose a different approach, and choose that new runway as well. If you don't have those options, try downloading a different afcad file.

That works only for airports that have parallel runways, simulating Simultaneous Rwy Ops. But at airports that don't have parallel runways, the only way I found that works, as suggested, is to put in wind that favours the runway you like. Its a little unrealistic, but it works.

ive found a way which kind of works, when im around 10 NM into my downind leg ill ask to land, therefore there not gonna give me a runway that ill have to turn all the way back round to get onto, theyll give me the nearest one normally. (and ill make sure im on the side of the airport where the ILS runway is) If there are 2 parrallel runways then i can just request the ILS one. :)

FS9 with no winds selects the lowest numerical base runway value in a 360 degree clockwise circle (VMC airport conditions). If you want more control of additional active runway selections then the default of FS9 you must use my x-wind runway technique which activates all the runways at any given airport. ATC will recognize the additional runways and allow you to choose any runway within 180 degree's (90 left/right) of the active default base/recip runway heading value.

Can you elaborate on the x-wind rwy technique? Is it a utility or something that needs changing in FS9?Thanks,

What's the problem with landing on a "non ILS" runway? I did not see any mention of winds in your post. The airport I fly out of has no ILS at all, and often I have to land on a runway that does not even have a VASI / PAPI, as the only runway with that installed is the one with the LOC approach on it.One time I took off, and asked the tower for a practice "engine out", and I turned back and landed on the reciprocal runway (took off from 27 and landed on 9).No ILS on that runway, and I'm talking about the real thing, not FS. ;-)Forget about ILS, you don't need it to land, unless the weather is VERY bad, and you also made no mention of weather. So, if FS ATC gives you a non ILS runway, then just land the plane on that runway, you certainly do not need ILS to do it, right?Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

I have no time for>"sidesteps" or "circles to land".Dear ____: Due to numerous documented calls from the ATC Facility Supervisor reporting the need to re-route traffic to accomodate your recurring refusal to accept circle-to-land procedures at XXXX, you will report to the Company Flight Training division for evaluation and possible recurrent training before any further line operations will be assigned. In addition, a written explanation of your refusal in the cases listed (see attached) is required. Discussions with your crew members on the specified flights indicates you often stated you did not 'have time for this crap'. We remind you that cutting corners and circumventing established procedures is against FARs and Company regulations and this will be noted in your employee file.sincerely,Ernest K.
