I bought FSX-S as a backup should I have computer issues while traveling. Some will say that the Steam version is a bit smoother in operation but others have stuck with the boxed version for obvious reasons including "experience". I haven't installed -S but it's there if I need it. Just one other thought. As a RTWR pilot, if you have room on the HD to conveniently hold a bare-bones FS9, I'd consider installing it. As FS9 is still a current Race platform it allows you to test aircraft ( esp as there are some minor performance differences, even in the White List.), verify that any race routes hit FS9-only/FSX-only or matched airports when it comes to team planning. As future recruits may also be FS9 pilots it gives you a platform to help them along in comparable conditions. If you have had FSNav, it's still a good tool to have handy. Please deposit the 2-cent fee to the Exec Committee retirement fund. :wink: Rob

SOH SERVERS: Please be advised that SOH was notified at noon by the hosting company that the server(s) may be shut down for a period of (up to) six hours tonight from 00CST (05Z) to 06 CST (11z). Based on past experience this could happen sooner, or last 10 minutes to 10 hours. Eamonn has set up a temporary alternate thread for baton posts on the Race site in case. SOH may not have sufficient warning to notify everyone so please check for information on the Race site if you are unable to access SOH the normal way (sim-outhouse.com, or .net). BTW that means SOH could lose not only the forums but the flight server and TeamSpeak.

A quick reminder about selecting Racing Committee Members. Wednesday deadline. As the Race begins early on Saturday (or late Friday for North Americans), we have little time remaining. So it would be best if teams might select their members and inform the Committee by (Wednesday). That would give the Racing Committee only one day organize themselves and set their schedules. Names can be sent to Rob, Ed, or Eamonn via PM in the respective forums (Mike has limited time to collect info this week) And, given the short time involved, it might be helpful if each team might select at least one member who has previously served on the Racing Committee. (We appreciate the value in spreading the "honor" around the team, but this year we probably need some experienced members to get the Committee organized very quickly.) As the title says, we have released the Special Rules for the 2016 running of the Round the World Race. For consistency they are available to all teams and interested persons at: http://www.fsrtwrace.com/#rules The White List and Team Flight Appendices are also available. These only have minor editorial changes to include the latest data (as already posted). While it is hoped that the Rules are clear and straightforward, a FAQ document will be available on the Race Site in the next couple of days. Ahhhh... fond memories Eamonn. My first trip into Castlegar was in the back of a Canadian Pacific DC-6, then later in a 737 (on a VFR day). Even on good days some of the passengers would cringe as the mountains drifted by the wingtips, popping in and out of cloud. Landing Rwy 33 is even more fun as the approach is angled to miss the ridge until short final. If you want a real experience, think of using a Radio Range approach (spooky even in a DC-3) or later, the old 2 NDB approach - minimums were higher for the instrument approach than for VFR! 1967, as the only bilingual guy on the airport I had fun explaining to world-champion skier Jean-Claude Killy just why his pilote was not anxious to depart after the World Cup Race (even in a LR25) with wx of 800/1. "there are many mountains you cannot see that appear very suddenly at 200 Kts"... "Ahhhh, je comprend maintenant!".

Pretty intense modelling! The 'refuel' was, as Eamonn says, 680mg (.024 oz or about a half-teaspoon) and it wouldn't have taken long to determine it as a "non-event". The devil is in the details.

SOH pilots found the same invisible barrier last year ( during practice). It appears to be a bit variable - somewhere between the bridge and the runway, at altitudes from "low" to several hundred feet, and it does seem to vary with type of aircraft. We put it down to an extraneous bit in a scenery file and IIRC tried to stay high ( which has it's own dangers)
