Perry, I only use the configuration tweaks referred to in the introduction.  My NI is pretty generic, using the default Prepar3D settings with just one or two minor changes like maybe anisotropic setting  higher.  Be sure to visit the AVSIM and LM P3D forums where there are lots of tips and opinions on the best setup.  In the end, it depends on your system.  Last I heard, NVidia drivers were not fully compatible with overriding application settings so that type of setting can be ignored.  Vegetation autogen is safe but don't use too much object autogen. Watch out for VAS remaining getting too small, performance falls off a cliff in those situations.  Sorry, there's just not much beyond having enough computing power that helps but there are things that hurt like the autogen and too much shadow effect etc.
