March 4, 201511 yr Hi guys (and gals), I'm getting a brand new laptop next week and I wanted to know what the tech-nerds think about how it'll run FSX:Acceleration and PMDG products, along with ORBX scenery. The specifications of my soon-to-be-delivered laptop are: CPU: 5th generation Intel Core i7-5500U (4MB, 2.4GHz up to 3.0GHz) RAM: 8GB HDD: 1TB GPU: nVidia GeForce 840M with 2GB memory O/S: Windows 8.1 (64-bit) I think this is a fair step up from my current PC, but want to see what others think I should see in terms of differences in FSX performance. Thanks in advance for your advice/comments! Matthew Bellette
March 4, 201511 yr You'll get the best advice for this in the AVSIM hardware forums. These forums are for PMDG product support, not hardware. Thanks. Cheers, Chris Brand
March 5, 201511 yr Author Since I only use PMDG aircraft addons, I was asking here. Also, the people here seem to be more technically competent than in other forums. Matthew Bellette
March 5, 201511 yr The guys in the hardware forums are great guys. A lot of them frequent here and they have great knowledge on what's best for FSX. Cheers, Chris Brand
March 5, 201511 yr I'm not a computer geek so wont comment on your spec other than to say I use a similar notebook for all my simming with same products and am quite happy. What I would recommend is you invest in extra cooling. By this I mean that I have a desk stand with a fan and also a lap tray with two fans. The computer will get hot when working hard. If you like, search AVSIM for another thread where I named my two items. Enjoy.
