June 10, 200520 yr Any recommendations to try out in place of the default sounds of this beautiful add-on? Something with a heavy GE roar and groan..?!Thanks!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
June 10, 200520 yr do not believe default sounds are used in this model. The flight deck sounds are simulating actual sounds based on input for RL pilots. If you truly need to hear the roar of the Level D engines. Position yourself outside of the cockpit in spot view near rear of aircraft at takeoffVern
June 11, 200520 yr Author So, should I just leave well alone and stick with the sounds in the LDS package?JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
June 11, 200520 yr Author Hey, Vern:Just saw your spex. How is the DELL widescreen with LDS? What is the impact with the VC?JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
June 11, 200520 yr Do what you want. The sounds that come with it are great, and from everything I've seen posted they represent fairly accurately what you'd hear in the cockpit. However, this is a sim, so you don't get some of the other stuff that you would normally get in flight. It might be an idea to use a louder soundset to help the immersion factor. I don a lot of switching to and from spot view, where it's pretty loud, so although it's not an issue for me I can see how if you're in cockpit view a lot you might need something to help you feel you're there. Can't recommend anything specifically, but there are lots of soundsets for heavy jets that you could try out until you found one you liked. Good luck!billg

June 11, 200520 yr The problem is that most have us have only experienced the sounds of a large jet aircraft from the cabin and unfortunately the default LDS sounds are quite different from what you would hear in the cabin. For instance the startup whine is very audible from the cabin but in is a barely audible whisper with the LDS default sounds. While the takeoff engine spool up seems very realistic the LDS default sounds seem to lose something once at cruise compared with some other soundsets I have experienced. Hopefully someone will come up with a more satisfactory soundset for the LDS 767 to assist with that "being there" sensation.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
June 11, 200520 yr When it comes to sounds its near impossible for everyone to like a particular soundset because its such a personal thing if you ask me. The CFM56 sounds that seem awesome to me will sound like a VW Bug backfiring to another.Just download about 5 sets and play them in Winamp (or fly with them). If your ears go "yay" just keep it :)
June 11, 200520 yr >>Hey, Vern:>>Just saw your spex. How is the DELL widescreen with LDS? >What is the impact with the VC?>>JSI love FS in widescreen (upgraded from 17" sony CRT).... looks great! With the new 6800 Ultra .. the FS world never looked better (upgraded from GeForce4 Ti4600). Frame is so dependent of current slider settings, scenery and weather conditions. However, with all sliders full right ...i am typically seeing about 25fps on ground (frame rate fixed at 34fps).Its a great monitor for FS and my digital stills and video editing ...Vern
