June 17, 200520 yr I took this pic with my camera phone about a half hour before the entire sky opened up on South Florida today, causing the [a href=http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-0616goodyearblimp,0,4719053.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines]Goodyear Blimp to crash land[/a]. I've never flown above and next to a rainbow before. I wish the picture were better quality, but I wanted to share it anyway.[/img]

June 17, 200520 yr very nice..what caused the blimp to go down? I saw something about it on CNN a few min. ago. Chase Barnett
June 17, 200520 yr Ah thank you. Was looking for that, but must have missed it. You can move the thread if you like.Edit...sorry...thought you were an admin for some reason. Well if an admin feels the topic should be moved, that's ok. :)
June 17, 200520 yr I haven't found anything out about that. As quickly as the weather got bad, it was probably that. It was definitely related to it anyway. We had to divert to PMP, where the blimp is based, due to the weather, and the plane is still there. Maybe I'll find out more when I go to take the plane back to FXE tomorrow.
June 17, 200520 yr I saw a program about the blimps and one mentioned the scarcity of female blimp pilots.I used to see the bud blimps land at Joliet, (JOT), where I use to fly out of. They would come in for the nascar Races or the Dragstrip or golf tournaments.Article didn't mention who was flying this one though.Regards,JoeGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
June 17, 200520 yr Yesterday was watching the Police Chase of a car with Kidnapping victim and for the first time, realized Channel 5 in LA now has a female heleo Pilot and reporter. She kept up an interesting running conversation and caught the end of the chase which went into Santa Barbara. She then headed back, and was in the air during the Earthquake (best place to be) and then headed to Yacaipa to do some reporting. The other pilots must have run low on fuel, as they went off the air....
June 17, 200520 yr "I'm pretty sure a reporter in a helo isn't the pilot aswell."ya never know, lots of cutbacks these days! ;-)Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
June 18, 200520 yr You definitely won't see cloud shadows in FS9, let alone the rainbow.I wish....Danielwww.danielmcaloon.tk
June 18, 200520 yr >I'm pretty sure a reporter in a helo isn't the pilot as>well. Oh she definitely is, she has to keep interrupting her narration, to respond to other aircraft, and to communicate with LA PD or CHP aircraft, and other News Choppers, ATC etc... She does have a Cameraman along who operates the cameras. This is the first time a news chopper has followed such a long chase in many years."Captain Ron" also was the Reporter on all his flights for Channel 7 for years. So am quite familiar with operations in the LA area, as I went up on "fly" alongs several times a year with "Captain Ron" in both Channel 7 and the Sheriff's Choppers. He was a LT. for LA Sheriff's Dept as a Chopper Pilot until he retired, but Channel 7 called him Captain, due to his Marine Rank. His stories were always more interesting to me than the other Pilots, because he knew the Pilots of the PD units or the officers on the ground. He learned to fly when he was quite young, had his license by the time he was 14. Then went into the Marines, and flew a Rotary in Nam, before joining the LA Sheriff's. Then later also began working for channel 7 - 4 hours a day... He's the brother of my Daughter-in-law. But unfortunately he had to retire earlier than he intended a few years ago, due to a serious illness. He had also written a script for TV series, they thought He might fly in the series, but He can't even drive a car anymore.
