Earthquake on takeoff or landing...

Featured Replies

With all the quake activity going on in California, I was wondering does anyone have any stories to tell. Can you imagine a 6.6 quake occurring right as your wheels touch the runway upon landing or right as your holding for takeoff? Heavy or GA, that would be a traumatic experience for anyone evolved (I would guess)...

Hi Dillon,I live in Peru and we get lots of quakes... most don't make the news... but we get plenty... check http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/ ... the biggest I've been through is 8.4...and although traumatic I am not sure from a landing aircraft point of view it would have too much effect....maybe similar to a buffeting wind.I am not a real world pilot... so it's possible I am wrong... but having driven a car during a large earthquake it felt like someone was pushing and pulling your car from the side.Cheers,Paul

Intersting thought. Although I would imagine it to be no different than if you were driving down the road in your car during an earthquake. That happened to me in Washington State a few years ago. I didn't even know we had a quake, until it was announced on the radio.Unless the runway opened up because of the quake... I would imagine not much of an effect. :DKev

Sounds like a great excuse for a Bounced landing......errrr... Must have been an earthquake... :-lolSeems like most don't feel it in a car unless it is a major one, my son was walking and didn't feel yesterdays, but I did being upstairs..Sundays was longer, and we were a bit closer to Anza than Yucaipa.Regards,Joeaopa.gif" border="0" alt="Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]
