Add-ons, VAS, OOM.

Featured Replies

I do have some problems with OOM sometimes.

Should I stop thinking about these add-ons?

Anybody knows if they use up a lot of VAS?

I just don't want to buy any more software that I can´t use.

The worst VAS killer I have dealt with is Autogen.  It depends on a number of factors:

What version of FSX you are running ( Steam or Classic)

If Classic then make sure you have applied the HIGHMEMFIX=1 into the [GRAPHICS] section of your fsx.cfg

I use photo scenery with no autogen/ combined with add- on airports. Some payware aircraft can bring you VAS usage up as well.

The advantage to photo scenery with no autogen is Vas usage is managed quite well. I get better frame rates with this set-up  You should download the Process Explorer which will help you see VS usage and what may be causing your overload. www.Sysinternals.com

Autogen is a known fps and vas killer. A lot of people say that they have Autogen turned up to the max and have no fps or vas issues. That may be okay for short sessions but any long sessions will start bogging down the system as Autogen is popping up everywhere, whether you see it or not. And, with the advent of new and faster CPU's, it all use pops up faster and VAS usage just happens sooner than when we have the slow CPU's and systems.

The AVSIM CTD Guide provides information on how to set up your computer using Process Monitor to monitor only P3D or FSX programs and addons. It also has a guide on how to set up the fsuipc to monitor your VAS usage. You can also use process explorer but I have found the fsuipc log provides a running display of VAS usage during a flight and at the end it summarizes how much VAS was used and how many fps you had during the flight.
